& Terms of Inquiry: Despite the fact that the company seems to
operate successfully we feel unable to comment on such a big amount given in
your inquiry.
The present limited liability company was
incorporated on 14/01/1978 and took
over the activities of a private concern founded in 1910.
It is a long and well established company,
operating successfully in the local market. It is among the leading companies
in its field.
The company deals with the import and sales on
retail and wholesale basis of upholstery and curtains fabrics, bed sheets and
covers, carpets, wallpaper,
suspended ceiling, furniture (office and other
kind), lighting and fittings and other related products.
Apart from their sales in the local market the
company undertakes projects in Greece. Cypriot Companies, owners of Hotels in
Greece assign to them projects for renovation and redecoration. Thus the
company in question exports products for their own projects.
Their products are of good quality and are aiming
to the middle and upper class. The company imports its products mainly from
Europe, Far East, South Africa and the USA.
Further, they are agents for several foreign firms, names of which are
given overleaf.
According to the person interviewed the company has
expanded the premises of the retail shop located in Larnaca city. She also
added that during the last couple of years they have laid off about 20 persons,
to minimize their costs.
The home textiles business is suffering from strong
competition as many shops operating in the same line are continuously being set
up. Like many other Cypriot companies, the present concern has to deal with the
delays of customers’ payments, either these are retailers or individuals.
Thus, inflow of cash is sometimes slow. Therefore
someone should be careful with his dealing with companies operating in this
line of business.
