Vision

The recognized leader in creating and supporting winning brands

Corporate Line

creating brands. supporting brands.

Our corporate line "creating brands. supporting brands." denotes the promise to add value to our customers’ brands. Because the success of our customers equates to the success of our customers’ brands.

The first part of the line ("creating brands") represents our competence in helping our customers to develop new product brands, to extend existing lines and to relaunch products using:

The second part of the corporate line ("supporting brands") communicates that Symrise not only develops brands with its customers, but above all

The margin between "creating" and "supporting" is a continuum. Only both parts together reveal the full performance potential.

Core Principles

Our Purpose

We are committed to serving our customers throughout the world with innovative, superior quality and high value-adding products and services - the success of our customers is our first priority. We work with initiative, passion and creativity in order to achieve this objective. We believe that by consistently applying this approach to business, we will achieve sustainable profitable growth, which ultimately serves our customers, employees and shareholders.

Our 5 Core Principles

History

The hummingbird, the dragon and our brand philosophy

With their entrepreneurial vision, ambition and creative research, Haarmann & Reimer and DRAGOCO have been building the foundation for business success since 1874 and 1919, respectively. As a result, both companies have established a global presence and brought about ground-breaking innovations in manufacturing fragrances and flavorings as well as raw materials and active ingredients for cosmetics. In the future, H&R and DRAGOCO will work together, united by their business vision.

Symrise stands for the creative symbiosis of two long-established companies and their new union as an ambitious, future-oriented corporation. It represents the fruitful and successful collaboration with clients and partners.

"Creating brands. Supporting brands": its brand-oriented philosophy is its core competence. Symrise supports its clients in every phase of developing, expanding and maintaining successful brands on a regional and international level.

The dragon and the hummingbird are united harmoniously in the logo. The powerful mythical creature and the delicate bird of great agility and grace represent the symbiosis of power and the senses, the merging of competences, and the synergy between business-oriented initiative and openness to creative research.

Milestones

2002

2002 EQT Northern Private Equity Fonds and Bayer reach an agreement on the acquisition of Haarmann & Reimer, the fifth-largest international manufacturer of fragrances and flavorings, while acquiring the shares of minority holders of DRAGOCO.
Horst-Otto Gerberding, majority holder and Chairman of the Executive Board at DRAGOCO, places all of his shares into the new corporation. The merger begins but must be officially approved by the anti-trust authorities.

2003

Heading for the top with a new name: DRAGOCO and Haarmann & Reimer become Symrise on February 20, 2003

With its entry in the commercial register on May 23, 2003, Symrise GmbH & Co. KG completed the merger from a legal standpoint.

Ayurveda Extrapones® for the cosmetics industry

Symrise, one of the world’s top suppliers of innovative cosmetic raw materials and active ingredients, has just launched a range of botanicals based on traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

Ayurveda is the traditional Indian method of healing that has been practiced for over 5000 years and is considered the world’s oldest school of medicine. Ayurveda is a way of life with the goal of creating and maintaining a harmonious balance between body and soul.

In keeping with the international trend towards alternative Indian and Asian methods of treatment, Symrise has now developed a range of Ayurvedic botanicals. In doing so, the corporation worked closely with Dr. Chandrakant Basole, an Indian expert who studied Ayurvedic medicine and has extensive knowledge of phytoscience and Ayurvedic plants. In India, these plants are used in many cosmetic products, and this trend is expected to expand in the western world as well. Ayurvedic plants and herbs are used in Indian cosmetics such as soaps, hair care and skin care products.
With its new Ayurveda Extrapone® product range, Symrise offers components from traditional and popular Ayurvedic plants and herbs such as sandalwood, lotus flower, cinnamon, ginger and neem. The latter is an extract from leaves of the neem, a tree which has been cultivated for over 4,000 years; in Ayurvedic medicine this “miracle tree” is very important.

The Ayurveda Extrapone® product range includes products with Amla (Amalki) Fruit, Bel (Bilva) Fruit, Noni (Ashyuka) Fruit, Nutgrass (Motha) Root and Indian Berberine (Guduchi) Root. Guduchi, a vine that can reach great heights, is also known as the nectar of immortality because its vines keep growing even after they have been separated from the tree. According to Ayurvedic teaching, it derives its energy from all five elements. It is considered a perfect symbol of vitality, youthfulness and long life.

The Symrise Extrapones® portfolio features a wide variety of exotic and traditional plants which are characterized by their multi-facetted and outstanding uses in cosmetic products. Extrapones® are preparations of natural plant extracts on aqueous-glycolic or glycerin base.

Ayurveda, the “science of life,” offers a path to a life in harmony with nature, and it promotes health, natural beauty and longevity. Its teachings are as applicable today as they were thousands of years ago because they have their roots in universal principles. Because of its timeless nature, traditional Ayurveda can be integrated into modern holistic complementary medicine. Its relaxation and self-healing techniques complement the wellness boom of recent years.

Symrise to exhibit at drinktec in Munich:
Six innovative drink concepts – a wealth of drink competence. From emotional added value through to functional packagings.

“Customer focused. Consumer driven” is the motto under which flavor and compound manufacturer Symrise will be showcasing new, custom-tailored drink concepts for the national and international trend markets of tomorrow at this year’s “drinktec” in Munich from September 12 through to 17, 2005.

This years Drinktec motto “Go with the flow” is one way to describe today’s international beverage market. In no other segment of the market is so much in motion; consumer preferences are continually changing and new trends keep cropping up. In this kind of fast-paced market, sustained product successes necessitate a total focus on the customer’s needs and a rigorous alignment toward consumer wishes. Symrise’s response to these challenges is reflected by its motto of “Customer focused. Consumer driven”. The company is offering the drinks industry not just new products and flavors, but holistic marketing concepts. They range from innovative product ideas to sensory product development and trend setting flavors right through to packaging ideas and market positioning.

Symrise’s exhibits will focus on six drink concepts. With these concepts – “Healthful and Natural,” “Functionality,” “Thirst-Quenchers,” “Enjoyment,” “Lifestyle” and “Fun” – Symrise demonstrates its extensive drink competence in the non-alcoholic, alcoholic and powdered beverage segments. With its competitive edge in innovation, technology and creativity, caters to the mega-trends of Health, Convenience, Enjoyment and Wellness.

Flavored Water, Near Water and Tea Plus are the attractive product offerings under the “Healthy and Natural drinking” concept. These products invite the consumer to combine the healthy benefits of pure natural water with pure enjoyment. Flavored Water persuades with its fresh, fruity notes. With additives like natural extracts, vitamins or juices, consumers can look forward to refreshing Near Water products.

The Far-Eastern Tea Plus creations offer natural tea extracts that are both healthy and lend an interesting aromatic note to pure water. Because all of these products are low in calories, they satisfy consumer wishes for modern contemporary soft drinks.

Symrise’s innovative strength is reflected by the “Functionality” concept: Omega-3-drinks offer the kind of convincing functional and emotional added value that modern consumers expect today. This concept provides the healthy Omega-3-fatty acids in combination with fruity, exotic flavors like Cherry/Dragonfruit. Omega-3-drinks offer the customer the opportunity of being first to market, and thus the advantag of being able to set their brand apart from the competition – a clear competitive edge in the hotly contested drink market. Convenience combined with functionality is what characterizes the innovative ACE powdered drink. In addition to the well-known advantages of traditional instant beverages, this powdered drink offers all of the benefits of classical ACEs from the liquid drink segment.

Symrise will be introducing a new generation of soft drinks under its “Thirst Quenchers” concept: Less-sweet spritzers with reduced juice content as well as juice-containing drinks, such as Guava-Strawberry-Feijoa or Apple-Rose with a juice contents of 6 percent and more, without compromising any of the fruity-juicy taste experience. The ability to preserve the intensive taste of these products is based on Symrise’s profound flavors and compound expertise. In the powdered drink segment, Symrise treats consumers with fruity Instant Drinks, like Pineapple and Lemon, that are characterized by their high solubility and superb taste. With products that are highly developed from both a sensory and technology standpoint, Symrise offers consumers outstanding taste experiences and its customers the ability to market highly profitable products.

With the “Indulgence ” concept, Symrise is responding to the feel-good and pamper-yourself global mega-trend that manifests itself in such a variety of forms. Symrise has picked up on the two strongest product trends: Syrups, Amaretto or Vanilla flavors, for example, are an ideal way to lend added enjoyment to coffee, cocoa or cocktails, thus offering a virtually limitless array of new taste sensations. Hot Choc, a chocolate syrup whose innovative sachet packaging concept allows consumers to enjoy the soothing and authentic pleasure of hot chocolate anywhere and any time. Right in line with the Convenience trend the creamy, highly soluble Malt-Chocolate powdered drink features the special kick of added malt.

Symrise offers its customers a wide range of products under the “Lifestyle” concept. In the sustained major trend market of Flavored Beer Drinks this segment still has tremendous potential to offer. These fruity, mild Flavored Beer Drinks in attractive small 0.33 l bottles stands for lifestyle in its purest form! With this concept, Symrise offers breweries, in particular, the opportunity of using a mix of traditional and new flavors to gain further market share in the non-beer-drinker and female consumer groups.

Herbal liqueurs with fruit, trend liqueurs in new flavors as well as cocktails are offered under the fruity, colorful “Fun” concept. From classic to cult drink: Herbal liqueurs have advanced to become a true cult drink in recent years – and not just among the younger set. Symrise has picked up on this development with the “Asia” and “Mediterranean” trends, creating new herbal liqueurs with interesting flavors like Lychee. The right concept for a highly profitable market which addresses new young consumer groups! What sets Symrise apart in the trend liqueur segment: New and unusual flavors along with flashy colors.

At Booth 135 in Hall B 1 at drinktec in Munich, Symrise will be showcasing its vast reservoir of knowledge and know-how relating to consumers, trends and markets, integrated within six innovative drink concepts for successful products and brands.
