HISTORY / BACKGROUND

On 27th December 2006 we contacted one of the Senior staff from the Accounts Department. She provided some information on the SC.
FINANCIAL COMMENTS
The financial summary of the SC in Year 2005 showed that it was financially FAIR. The SC has generated an acceptable return on its shareholders' funds, indicating that the SC was efficient in utilising its shareholders' funds to generate favourable returns. Besides this, it also has an adequate liquidity position with its current liabilities well covered by its current assets. With its current net assets, the SC should be able to repay its short term obligations. The SC has high liabilities ratio and it may face financial difficulties if no additional capital is injected. The SC should be able to maintain its business in the near term, given a positive net worth standing at RM84,933,732. Overall financial condition of the SC: FAIR
BASIS COMMENTS
The SC is a public company with core business in manufacturing of electrical conductor grade copper & wires which are widely used in many sectors such as cabling, electronic appliances, watches and computer. With an issued and paid up capital exceeding RM50 million and strong shareholders' backing, the SC is a large entity with over 36 years of experience in the business. Its long establishment in the market has allowed the SC to build up a good reputation and gain higher market share against its rivals.
Investigation revealed that most of the SC's products are supplied for the Group's internal operations. However, in order to face the challenge of globalization, the SC has penetrated into the global market. Presently, 40% of its total sales are generated from overseas market such as China, Hong Kong and Singapore. The SC revealed that it faces stiff competition from overseas competitors especially from China, Taiwan and Korea. The SC's management structure is well organised and headed by its Managing Director, Yosuke Tsuge. Currently, the SC has a workforce of 135 employees in its operations.
Financially, the SC recorded a fair financial standing is year 2005. Its turnover and pre-tax profit stood at RM866,604,097 and RM8,605,527 respectively. The SC has generated an acceptable return on shareholders' funds which indicated that the management was efficient in utilising its funds to generate income. Besides, the SC is in good liquidity position with its current liabilities well covered by its current assets. It should be able to meet its short term financial obligations. However, the high liabilities ratio has placed the SC at high financial risk.
We noted that the SC imports 40% of its raw materials from China, Hong Kong and Singapore. As such, currency exposure arises as the SC's operations involved importation.
The SC is clear of litigation.
The industry demonstrate downward trend and the poor performance of the industry is likely to impair the SC's business performance. Hence, the SC should increase its capacity as well as explore more new market segments in order to have a stable standing in the industry.
In view of the above, we recommend credit be granted to the SC with monitoring.
