LOCAL AGENCY FURTHER INFORMATION

Activities:

It campaigns to end cruelty towards animals and their ruthless exploitation in the name of food, commerce, sport, religion, science, tradition and entertainment. It spearheads a popular movement to respect all life on earth and is a small but crucial part of India's growing environmental awareness. By the end of 2001, it expects to have two million active members.

It works through education, litigation, legislation and direct action to improve conditions for animals throughout the country. Among its most important programmes is the Animal Birth Control (ABC) initiative wherein street animals are sterilised, vaccinated and returned to their colonies to live out their lives harmlessly and healthily. Another way it seeks to reduce the stray population is to encourage people to adopt Indian dogs from the street or shelters
