Flexible Cables
POLYCAB Brand, PVC
insulated L.T. Light Duty Cables are as per IS:694-1990 and are suitable for
fixed wiring and flexible operation.
The cables are suitable for use on AC single phase or three phase (earthedor
unearthed) system for rated voltage up to and including 1100 volts. These
cables can be used on DC systems for rated voltage up to and including 1500
Volts to earth.
CONDUCTOR: The most acceptable metals for conductors are copperand aluminium
due to their higher conductivity and ductility as copper has got higher
affinity for sulphur, it corrodes in the atmosphere where sulphurfumes are
present. In these conditions tinned copper should be used.
CONDUCTOR CONSTRUCTION: The most economical construction for conductor is solid
conductor i.e. conductor is made of one single wire. As the area of conductor
increases, solid conductor becomesmore stiff and hence difficult to handle. In
this case stranded construction is adopted. The construction of conductors as
per IS-694, and they must comply with IS-8130/1984 which is the specification
for conductors for electric cables.
INSULATION: The PVC covering over conductor is called insulation and provided
by extrusion process. The insulated conductor is called a core. As per IS-964
the insulation should be of type A PVC compound
as per IS-5831 and
it is suitable for 70° C continuous operation.
LAYING UP: In case of multicore cables the cores are laid up with suitable lay.
SHEATH: The PVC coating on core and on laid up cores in case of multi-core
cables is called SHEATH. As per IS-694 it should be of type ST-1 PVC compound
as per IS-5831.IT is suitable for70° C continuous operation.
DELIVERY LENGTH: The cables are generally delivered in 100 Mtrs coils wrapped
with polyenthylene/Hessian,or packed in card board boxes. The bigger size cable
are supplied on wooden drums.

Features
& Advantages
1) Minimun loss in signal quality : better reception
2) Higher band width : larger network expansion,100 plus channels
3) Low attenuation value : less electromagnetic interference
4) Minimum structural return loss
5) Moisture proof : Ideal for tropical conditions
Polycab, one of the leading Cable manufacturer of the country, now introduces
Co-axial Cables for Cable TV Network. The Company's most modern plant at Daman,
aided with intelligent R&D efforts and rigorous quality measures has
produced co-axial cables that's technologically advanced and unrivalled. Its
ideal combination of electrical and physical properties makes it the preferred
choice for a variety of application in CATV network by public and private
operators in India and abroad alike. The center conductor is made of
electrolytic grade solid copper free from all impurities and deformities to
ensure better signal transmission. The conductor is insulated with foam
dielectric made of imported polythylene injected with nitrogen gas, which is
superior and also environment-friendly than chemical foam. The double screen of
special composite type bonded aluminium foil and special grade aluminium alloy
braiding of 60% coverage ensures low loss in signal quality, additional
mechanical strength and resistance to oxide formation in tropical weather
condition. The specially designed in-house PVC compound used in the jacketing,
is uv and abrasion resistant.
Polycab co-axial cables are fully tested for all parameters by computerised
analyser.Co-axial cable with steel wire armouring can also be supplied for
underground application. Also under production are RG 59F, RG 58, RG 213, RG
217, RG 224 etc.

ADVANTAGES OF
POLYCAB XLPE CABLES
Higher Electrical Strength* Higher short Circuit Rating.
Better Electrical, Mechanical & Thermal properties
Easy jointing & Termination.
Polycab HTXLPE Cables upto 33KV are manufactured at its modern manufacturing
setup at Daman. Technological upgradation and Polymer revolution has replaced
the conventional paper insulated cables with crosslinked Polyethelene (XLPE)
having better electrical, mechanical and thermal properties with reduced cable
weight and dimentions. Worldwide acceptable trends are adopted by Polycab in
manufacturing of High Voltage Cables upto 33KV.
Flame Retardant (FR), Flame Retardant Low smoke (FRLS) and Halogen Free Flame
Retardant (ZHFR) Sheathed HT XLPE Cables are also manufactured.
The XLPE cables are manufactured on sophisticated triple extrusion line, in
highly quality conscious environment with testing and inspection from raw
material to finished cables. The assurance of quality is further ensured by ISI
certifications NO.CM/L-7180366 On cables and ISO 9002 certification by u,

cables are manufactured as per IS-7098 Part-1 & Part-2 and can also be
manufactured to meet the requirements of any of international standards like
BS-5467, IEC-60502, DIN etc.The XLPE compound used is obtained from reputed
international sources, meeting all required parameters. The cables are
manufactured in highly quality conscious environment with testing and
inspection from raw-materials to finished cable stage. The assurance to the
quality is further ensured by ISI certification on cables and ISO-9002
certification by UL, USA.
The XLPE insulated heavy duty cables were introduced worldwide in mid sixties.
These cables have overcome the limitation of PVC Insulated Cables such as
thermal degradation, poor moisture resistant and thermoplastic in nature.
Selection of Power Cables :
Power cables are generally selected considering the application. However
following factors are important for selection of suitable cable construction
required to transport electrical energy from one end to the other.
(1) Maximum operating voltage.
(2) Insulation
level.
(3) Frequency.
(4) Load to be
carried.
(5) Possible
overloading duration & magnitude.
(6) Route length
and voltage drop.
