REVIEW OF BUSINESS OPERATIONS

In self service solutions business, off take of new ATMs took a sharp down turn – mainly on account of regulatory restrictions on wide spread deployment of ATMs. This challenge coupled with a handful of competitive wins of significant volumes at very aggressive price point and unforeseen delays from the clients end in the finalization of a major ATM supply transaction caused appreciable erosion of share of new orders. However, utilizing its project management skills, your company still managed to retain its positions as a market leader in emerged as a preferred partner for most of the service provider offering outsourcing services for ATM networks, besides adding a prestigious multinational bank to it list managed service customers.

 

In the payment solution business your company continued its dominance of the MICR Clearinghouse market by securing all the 13 orders decided during the period. Your company now maintains 50 of the 65 automated MICR Clearinghouses in the country. On the cheque truncation side your company signed a contract with reserve bank of India to implement indias first cheque transaction solution (CTS). NCR hase also sizeable order from major commercial banks for their CTS capture solution. The business volume in this segment has more than doubles over last year.

 

On the retail solutions division (RSD) side, your company is the lead player in providing solution to the petroleum sector. Your company is the only vendor selected by both the leading petroleum companies like Hindustan petroleum corporation limited (HPCL) and bharat petroleum corporation limited (BPCL). Teradata division continued the expansion in the enterprises data warehousing (EDW) and business intelligence market. Teradata has also won a large EDW consultancy order with one the largest PSU Banks in the country witch will generate significant professional services revenues for the company. Company Details:

1) FINANCIAL SERVICE DIVISION (FSD)

NCR India, in a span of seven years, has established itself as the market leader in the ATM (Automated Teller Machines) and Payment Solutions markets. In the ATM business, NCR India has established strategic

Relationships with almost all the major banks in the country and is the clear market and thought leader. Its Payment Solutions Division has implemented 27 of the 29 Clearing Houses in India.

India, with its fast growing economy and a large base of skilled people, is developing as one of the fastest growing Automated Teller Machine (ATM) market in India. From the simple ATMs, which dispense cash to more elaborate machines, ATM machines are already revolutionizing the banking industry in the country.

Some of the important functions, besides the usual cash and cheque transactions, on an ATM include-

  • Topping up pre-paid mobile phone cards
  • Railway ticketing
  • Temple donations to Lord Tirupati through ATMs

ATMs are set to develop into one stop banking transaction solutions for the common man. Internet connectivity, open platforms and high-level processing in these machines have created revolutionary new applications for self-service. With its keen focus on the Indian market, NCR launched ASAN, the first ever India specific ATM to facilitate banks to extend their ATM network reach into newer locations across the country without compromising on the returns on investment.

NCR’s Financial Services Division also comprises of Payment Solutions . In 1986, the Reserve Bank of India set up India’s first Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) Cheque Clearing Center at Mumbai, followed by the introduction of the same in New Delhi, Calcutta and Chennai in a phased manner, as also Inter City Clearing across these four cities. In 1995, it was extended to 26 more cities through Public Sector banks.

As on date, NCR has set up the majority of Clearing Houses in the Country, a market leader in payment business with its Docuview solution. NCR also offers its feature rich application “Chequemark Ô”, the MICR Cheque processing solution for the service branches, for the commercial banks.

The cheque processing market is in transition from traditional paper processing and bank-to-bank paper exchange to image processing and bank-to-bank image and electronic exchange of data. NCR’s ECPIX solution, already implemented by Punjab National Bank for first ever image based Cheque truncation system in the country (currently used for intra-bank processing), will help banks move into the image based processing once the guidelines of the RBI Working Committee are formalized.

4) TERADATA SOLUTIONS DIVISION

NCR is the world leader in large data warehouse implementation and has a dominant market share of the 1 terabyte plus market. Worldwide, NCR Teradata’s customer base has expanded by 40% since the beginning of 1999. The number of NCR data warehouses over 1 TB has nearly doubled every year since 1996.

The Teradata solutions enable businesses to simplify and quickly leverage detailed data, turning it into actionable opportunities.
