Website Details:
Newstech Circa 1984 started off as a promising marketing organization to address the needs of the Newspaper Publishing Industry for low cost, remote Multi edition printing. It concentrated in the High Tech areas of the pre-press and post- press operations.
Subject launched Products and Services to fulfill these needs for multi-locational remote editions with centralized editorial content. The consequence of this concept was Facsimile editions with automated pre and post printing operations using the modern mail room concept. This resulted in Start-up of remote Newspaper Printing sites with about 30% - 40% saving in Labour and Equipment.
Subject marketed and provided Installation and after Sales Service support for some of the World's leading Equipment Manufacturers for this purpose like CHEMCO's Facsimile Transmission, Western Litho's Plates Processing and Idab Wamac's Mailroom Systems. They simultaneously started Marketing Plate and Press Room Chemistry to complement the Equipment.
In 1986 Subject successful installed the Chemco Facsimile Transmission System, Western Litho Plate Line and the Idab Wamac Mailroom System at Malayala Manorama's and India's First truly remote Printing Site at Trivandrum. These systems then became the Industry Standard in remote Editions started by most of India's Leading Newspapers including The Times of India, Indian Express, Eenadu, Deccan Herald, The Hindu , ABP Limited, Hindustan Times Limited., Hind Samachar Limited etc.
In 1994 they launched the Newstech™ Brand of Plate-making and Press Chemistry with the motto "Chemistry for Better Printing". Their Products are being used by many of India's Leading Printing Companies.
The increased sophistication in Printing Presses and Processes created a need for Superior Press Chemistry and Plate-making, and so they tiedup with the World's No 1 Press Chemistry Manufacturer DSC; Germany, for their wide range of Chemistry approved by all leading Press, Plates, Blankets and Rollers manufacturers. They simultaneously launched the "DARANI" Brand of Korean manufactured Plates. Their Products have found wide acceptance by the most critical Printing Companies in India.
The turn of the Millenium urged them to get into an area they so far resisted - the Printing Press. They successfully negotiated the Exclusive All India Distributorship to represent the world's oldest and most respected Press manufacturer KBA - Frankenthal, Germany.
Their Services includes Installation and Servicing of the Equipment sold by them. Technical support for the range of Consumables Marketed through Branch offices in most Metros and Printing Centres.

- New Technology
Managing Information: leading technologies.
Having the technology in place to manage information is one thing, but how a newspaper manages this information is more important.
Andrew Tribute, International Editor for seybold Publications, was given the task of presenting the Top 10 technologies to track in the future.
Here are Tribute’s Top 10:
The use of untethered computing: such as computing with no electrical or communication physical connection; using Personal Digital Assistants (PDA); telephones and links with satellite navigation.
Push technologies: Intelligent agents to personalize information against a client profile, and to deliver electronically to specific clients over the Internet/Intranet.
Communications technologies: such as transmission of data signals over standard electrical cables; low flying satellites; new radio-based technologies and new suppliers with controlled delivery systems.
Web TV: a very low-cost way to get access to the Internet with high speed of delivery into the home.

Saving Energy with automatic roller bearings.
The roller bearings of the linking unit rollers, especially of the form rollers, were a quality-determining part of the press in the "letterpress era". Anyone whoever had to use roller bearings to align a form oller in accordance with the "three-strip method" will be able to confirm this. The change to the offset process then brought pneumatic roller throw-on and throw –off, working with the micrometer screw-adjustable stop. The need for exact adjustment therefore remains, but is subject to the imponderabilities of the temperature increase in the press. An automatic follow-up adjustment of the setting, not only in order to save drive energy (due to greater friction losses at the time of the temperature-induced "growing" of the rubber coverings) but also to retain the exact roller setting throughout the entire print run, is a long-standing wish of Printers.
The Gimaco Engineering Company, which is based in Berne, Switzerland, has developed a new system for printing press engineering; an electromechanically-positionable forme roller bearing with position indication and a special inter-roller bearing that, besides increasing the level of precision, is intended also to bring about energy savings.
The problem: rubber-covered rollers are major power consumers
In the Inking units of printing presses, the highly-viscous inks are processed to form a continuous ink film which is several thousands of a millimeter thick and that is used to ink-up the plate. In order to produce this ink film, inking units are equipped with a large number of rollers with which the ink film is split, distributed and smoothed several times.
With today’s standard roller bearings, the pressure between the rubber-covered rollers and distributor rollers or the plate cylinder must be set considerably higher than would actually be required for a perfect ink transfer. This is necessary to obtain sufficiently strong friction forces to accelerate to production speed as well as to rotate the rubber-covered rollers. During the start-up of printing presses, in the offset process, the friction values can vary greatly due to the usually still unstable ink/water balance. As the production speed increase, the pressure between the rollers is additionally increased. The diameters of the rubber-covered rollers are increased by the centrifugal forces, likewise the viscoelastic rolling resistance (displacement of the incompressible rubber, inner friction in the rubber layer) increases greatly. In addition, the constant heating of the rollers causes a further enlargement of the diameter, and the rubber-covered rollers can swell due to the influence of chemical additives in the inks or in the fountain solution.
The Solution: automatic
roller bearings
A technical innovation is now intended to alleviate this problem: the Gimaco Ingenieur AG fur Maschinenbau in Koniz near Berne, specialists in printing presses, has developed and applied for a patent a roller bearing with computer-controlled, electric motor-driven roller positioning. With this new control, the contact pressure between rollers remains constant. The automatic roller bearing compensates any changes of contact pressure resulting from changes of speed, hearing, etc. It ensures that the pressure in all operating conditions is not more than necessary for perfect printing. Besides the improved control of the printing process, the new roller bearing concept also permits energy savings to be realized. This is reported also to reduce the costs for various press components.
Advantages:
· The rollers are adjusted faster;
· Acheck of the roller position is possible at all times;
· Stability means less follow-up adjustment;
· Roller re-adjustment during production is simpler.
Other advantages are:
· Overload protection against paper jams,
· Covering against soiling and manual operation in case of emergency.
· Largest Colora for the US to go to The Courier-Journal 18-Tower Press Line for Louisville, Kentucky
At Ifra Expo 2001 KBA announced the sale of a large Colora press line to The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky. The purchase represents the largest Colora press sold in the US and the largest recent press sale by all suppliers. Shipment of the shaftless press to this million-population metropolis is slated for September 2003
The Courier-Journal, which will be the main title printed on the new Colora, was established back in 1868. In 1987 it became part of the Gannett Co., Inc., which publishes 114 newspapers worldwide, including USA Today. The Courier-Journal reaches some 500,000 readers every weekday and almost 600,000 on Sundays, in Southern Indiana as well as in Kentucky. Among all major market US newspapers, The Courier-Journal ranks fourth in household penetration. Its popularity is driven by a long tradition of journalistic excellence at local, national and international level - an excellence that has won it the Pulitzer Prize a rare nine times.
According to Gary L. Watson, president Newspaper Division, Gannett Company, Inc., "They have long been very familiar with KBA's position as one of the world's leading press manufacturers. They understand and have proven they can successfully deliver a press that fulfills the needs of The Courier-Journal."
Edward E. Manassah, publisher of The Courier-Journal, said: "The Courier-Journal management team looked at presses throughout Europe and the United States. They selected the KBA Colora as the press that will fulfill their needs for now and well into the future."
Powerful yet Versatile.
Installed on a concrete substructure, the new Colora will have a cylinder circumference of 1,066.8mm (42"), a web width of 1,270mm (50") and a maximum rated output of 75,000cph in straight production. The 533mm (21") cut-off represents the beginning of a new trend in North America towards an increase in paper savings via reduced cut-off and web width. The Colora will be configured as five four-high towers for 4/1, six for 4/4 or 2 x 2/2 and seven for full-colour 4/4, fed by 21 Pastostar reelstands. Automatic ink feed for black and process inks reflects the advanced level of automation. 28 turner bars with bay-window web leads, six skip slitters, three folder superstructures with six formers (stacked in pairs), two double folders (a 2:5:5 KF 5 and 2:3:3 KF 3) and a single KF 5 folder ensure maximum production flexibility.
Production will be monitored and controlled from nine EAE consoles featuring a Print 4 production-scheduling and press preset system plus service and diagnostics PC. A RIP interface will support online digital data transfer from pre-press to press for presetting the ink keys. There is also provision for an interface to plate and film scanners.
The press package includes an interactive, monitor-based simulation system supplied by Sinapse Graphic International, for training press operators prior to commissioning.
