Subject is responsible for providing basic civic services such as Roads, Lighting, Water Supply, Education, Health, etc. to the people of Kolkata.
Subject takes pride in managing this Herculean task in the city having a 10
million (resident and floating combined) population. Subject is responsible for
supplying 350 MGD to 5 million people, clearing 4000 MT of solid waste per day,
managing 136 clinics and 119 health units and running 358 primary educational
schools with more than 40,000 students. In the last few years, subject has

infrastructure, revamping inefficient administrative processes and introducing
some innovative strategies for improved delivery of citizen services.

BEAUTIFICATION OF HOOGLY RIVER FRONT
The development of Hoogly
River Front for Kolkata present a rare significant opportunity to showcase this
historic city and one amongst the world's largest metropolitan centres through
the total stretch of 17 km. of its water front that lie within the metropolitan
corporation boundaries. Out of this , a 10 km length of riverfront from
Taktaghat in the south Kashipur and Pramanik Ghat in the North represent the
most active and vibrant portion if the city's diverse engagements with the
river.
A MOU has been signed
between Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Kolkata Port Trust and Ministry of
Railways detailing the action to be taken for beautification of Hoogly
Riverfront, Kolkata side . As per MOU, M/s RITES already prepared a Concept
Plan and Detailed Project Report for a stretch of 10 km. between Dai Ghat on
south side (near Watganj) Pramanick Ghat at Cossipore on North side.
On August 2, Mamata
Bannerjee Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal inaugurated the pilot project
of BEAUTIFICATION OF HOOGLY RIVER FRONT at
This pilot Project
is approximately 900 m. long wide from Baja Kadamtala Ghat to Millennium park
of north side. Initially a pathway of around 15 m. wide will be constructed
towards the river connecting the
Hon'ble Chief
Minister expressed her view that with the beginning of this pilot project a new
dimension will be open for Pubic Private Partnership for beautification of
river front. The implementing body initially would beautify 1km. and the rest
would be done through PPP route. She praised Kolkata Municipal corporation,
Kolkata Port Trust, Ministry of Railways and Ministry Defence for their active
participation in the project. She also asked subject and RITES to compete this environment
friendly project before deadline.
