New investigation results, "Safety profile of trabectedin in combination with liposomal pegylated doxorrubicin in relapsed ovarian carcinoma: considerations for optimal management," are detailed in a study published in International Journal of Gynecological Cancer. "The toxicity profile of trabectedin in the OVA-301 trial, that combined trabectedin with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin for the treatment of patients with ovarian cancer, has shown to be predictable and manageable. No unexpected toxicities were found, with neutropenia and transient increase in transaminases as the most common adverse events reported," investigators in Madrid, Spain report (see also Liposomes).
"The
elevation in transaminases appeared early and generally decreased in incidence
and intensity over subsequent cycles, with no major clinical consequences. A
similar safety profile was seen in the analysis of the older patients in the
trial. There were no detrimental effects in quality of life with the
combination. Moreover, the Global Health Status score was better for the
combination arm in those patients with a PFI of 6 to 12 months that were in
response after 5 cycles. Trabectedin with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin is
not associated with cumulative end-organ toxicities (renal, cardiac, or
neurological toxicities)," wrote Martin A. Gonzalez and colleagues, Cancer
Center.
The researchers
concluded: "The toxicity profile is different from other second-line
strategies without the presence of inconvenient side effects, such as alopecia,
hypersensitivity reactions, hand-foot syndrome, or mucositis."
Gonzalez and
colleagues published their study in International Journal of Gynecological
Cancer (Safety profile of trabectedin in combination with liposomal pegylated
doxorrubicin in relapsed ovarian carcinoma: considerations for optimal
management. International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, 2011;21(10 Suppl
1):S6-8).

Rubber &
Plastics News: 02 May 2011
[What follows is
the full text of the news story.]
Anderson International Corp., which makes equipment for synthetic rubber
producers and other industries, is moving its headquarters and plant to Stow,
Ohio, from Cleveland.
The company, which has 78 employees, said it will relocate by December
to a 78,238-sq.-ft. building formerly owned by Wheeler-Boyce.
"The move to Stow will provide Anderson with an opportunity to
further control and reduce our operating costs, which are necessary to preserve
our position in a very competitive international market," said Anderson
International President Len- ny Trocano.
The firm makes polymer dewatering and drying systems, as well as other
heavy equipment for the vegetable oil, pet food and animal feeds processing
industries.
Trocano said another factor in the decision to relocate to the Akron
suburb is its commitment to research and development. "This relocation to
a more modern facility in an established industrial area enhances Anderson's
ability to attract and retain new talent," he said.
The company was founded in 1888 by Valerius D. Anderson, who invented a
method of extracting vegetable oil and fats by using a continuous mechanical
screw press called the Expeller. That device has been sold to companies in more
than 90 countries.
Anderson exports 75 percent of its capital production to customers in
Asia, South America, Central America, the Middle East and Africa.
