Kenkre FC down
Western Railway in Nadkarni Cup
Times of India: 09 October 2011
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
MUMBAI: Western
Railway ran out of steam and went down rather tamely to Kenkre FC 0-2 in the
RCF sponsored Nadkarni Cup pre-quarterfinal match, being played at the RCF
Sports Complex in Chembur.
The Kenkre FC
coach, played his cards well and let loose his young striker Taha Kachwala on
the tiring Western defence and the nippy did not disappoint the decision of his
coach by breaking the deadlock in the 70th minute.
The fleet-footed
Kachawala made a darting run from the right and with a deft touch placed the
ball beyond the reach of veteran goalkeeper, Abdul Majeed to give Kenkre a 1-0
lead.
Trying hard to
equalize, Western Railway left huge gaps in defence and Kenkre striker, Y.
Jugeshor Singh took advantage by beating the lone deep defender and then
placing the ball in the net.
Chembur rape:
police rope in auto unions
Hindustan Times (India): 01 October 2011
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
Mumbai, Oct. 1 --
The RCF police investigating the rape and abduction of a 21-year-old woman in
Chembur is taking the help of auto-rickshaw unions to identify the three
accused, one of whom was an auto-rickshaw driver according to the victim, as it
is beginning to suspect they are not locals.
The
police have
questioned a majority of auto drivers in the Chembur-Chunabhatti stretch, but
nothing has come of it so far.
"Since the
driver could have come from other parts of the city, we have asked auto unions
to help us in tracking him down," said an officer from the RCF police
station. Another officer investigating the case said, "We found the
victim's purse near the spot from where she was abducted. We are trying to find
the route taken by the accused after the abduction."
S Shelke, senior
inspector, RCF police station, said, "We are investigating this case on
priority basis and have formed teams that are probing it from several
angles."
The incident took
place on Monday when the victim, who suffers from a mental disorder, slipped
out of her house alone. The accused allegedly pushed her into an auto-rickshaw,
raped her and dropped her at Chunabhatti. Published by HT Syndication with

Cops prepare
sketches of trio accused of rape
Times of India: 30 September 2011
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
MUMBAI: The RCF
police have prepared sketches of three persons, including an autorickshaw
driver, who allegedly kidnapped and raped a 22-year-old homemaker with special
needs on Monday .
A constable
attached to the Chunnabatti police station had spotted the woman lying in an
unconscious state on the roadside nearby at around 7 pm.
He then took the
victim to Sion hospital.
The Chunnabatti
police tracked down the victim to a chawl at the RCF locality in Chembur and
informed their counterparts there about the incident.
When the victim
came to her senses in hospital, she complained to her mother of pain in her
private parts. "Based on her complaint, the doctors conducted a medical
examination and found that she was sexually assaulted," additional
commissioner of police (east region) Quaiser Khalid said.
He said the victim
had visited her parent's residence at the RCF area few days ago. "The
victim's parents said they were unaware their daughter had left home. Her
mother only noticed she was missing early on Monday when she found the house
door open," he said.
Deputy
commissioner of police (zone VI) Manoj Lohiya said the victim said in her
statement that she had stepped out of her house around 2 am. After walking for
a short distance, an autorickshaw stopped in front of her and three persons
told her to enter it, she said.
"She also
said she was not aware what they did to her. When she returned to her senses,
she was in hospital. She said all that she remembered was that the three in the
autorickshaw had misbehaved with her," Lohiya said.
He said cases of
kidnapping and gang-rape had been registered after the medical report confirmed
she was sexually assaulted.
"RCF senior
police inspector Shirish Shelke recorded the victim's statement in hospital.
Based on the description provided by her, we are preparing sketches of the
accused," he said.
Sonia's health
delays inauguration of rail coach factory in UP
United News of India: 29 September 2011
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
Rae Bareli, Sept.
29 -- Inauguration of the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) here at Lalganj would be
delayed as Congress president and local Lok Sabha Member Sonia Gandhi is not
available for the function. The rolling out of the first coach of the RCF,
which was earlier fixed on October 2, 2011, has now being delayed for some
days. Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the RCF Alok Jauhari said here today that
though the officials were prepared to roll out the new coaches any day but now
it would be held sometime in late October or early November. Ms Gandhi s Lok
Sabha constitutency representative K L Sharma said the RCF would be dedicated
to the nation any day when the Congress president is available for the
function. The delay is attributed to the health of Ms Gandhi, who recently had
an operation in the US and was now taking rest in New Delhi. Mr Jauhari said,
We have already assembled several coaches in the RCF and now a full rake of 11
Airconditioned coaches would be rolled out during the function. Earlier,
Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi had visited the RCF a couple of months
back and even held a meeting in a newly assembled AC coach with the officials.

25-year-old
arrested for young woman's murder
United News of India: 13 September 2011
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
Thane, Sept. 13 --
With the arrest of a 25-year-old youth from Mumbai, the city police today
claimed to have solved the murder of a young lady at Mumbra some three months
back. The alleged accused, Ashraf Ali Shaikh from Kurla, was in fact arrested
by the RCF police in connection with a case of chain snatching last week,
police today said. During interrogation, he denied the crime and came out with
a different story of having killed a young woman and dumped her body in Mumbra.
This led the RCF police to the Mumbra police who were struggling to solve the
murder case since past three months. Giving details of the entire episode, a
police officer of the Mumbra police said Ashraf was in love with Amarin Farin
Lokapalli, a resident of Mumbra. They got on very well for a long time but when
the girl proposed for a marriage, Ashraf was taken aback as he was to marry
another girl. However, Amarin kept pestering him to marry her. Due to which,
Ashraf got annoyed and he came to Mumbra one day and took her to an isolated
location and strangulated her to death. To destroy the evidence, he disfigured
her face with the help of huge stones and dumped her body in the Mumbra
by-pass. The Mumbra police, who recovered the body in June, registered a case
of accidental death as there was no trace of injury on the body of the victim
and sent the body for postmortem, he said. Last week, when the RCF police
referred the case to their counterparts in Mumbra, the arrested accused
confessed to the murder and destruction of evidence. The police have now booked
him under sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, the police official
added. UNI XR SSS SY AS1828 Published by HT Syndication with permission from

ONE of the drugs
examined in the RCF study was finally approved for prescription by the Scottish
Medicines Consortium this month after the manufacturers agreed to share some of
the cost.
Mepact
(mifamurtide) is used to treat children and youths with osteosarcoma, a rare
type of bone cancer.
The
pound(s)114,000 cost of a 35-week Mepact course was originally not seen as
value for money. SMC only recommended its use on the NHS after Takeda UK, which
makes the drug, submitted a Patient Access Scheme, giving a discount on the
cost of the drug. The SMC said that made it more cost-effective.

RCF recover twice to hold Customs

[What follows is
the full text of the article.] RCF recovered
twice from a deficit to earn a point against Mumbai Customs at the MDFA
League encounter at the University Ground, Marine Lines. Sajjad Alam put
the Customs ahead, once in either half, only to see the parity restored first
by Praveen Sharma and later by Kevin Patrick. RCF were the
dominant side in the first 25 minutes, but poor finishing by their forwards
ensured that the scoreline remained 0-0. Customs found an
opportunity against the run of play when Francisco Stalin was bought down by
the opposition skipper, Manoj Adhikari. Alam executed a
smart penalty, wrong-footing RCF goalkeeper Vain Joseph to put his side
ahead. The Customs
defence was shaky throughout the game. They had to rely on Lihaz Koya to pull
off a couple of saves in one-on-one situations. In the 76th
minute, RCF's Sharma broke through their un-organised backline to fire in a
goal from close range after the Customs defenders missed an easy clearance. However, they
found themselves a goal down within four minutes, as Alam headed in a Kirk
D'Souza's free-kick. Customs' lead
lasted for a much shorter period this time. In the 85th minute, their defence
once again failed to intercept an easy pass leaving their goalie exposed.
Patrick, who was in the right place at the right time, converted the chance. Results: Elite

Mumbai FC lift Nadkarni Cup; Thrash PIFA Colaba 4-0 in the final at RCF

[What follows is

thrashed PIFA Colaba 4-0 to retain the MDFA RCF Nadkarni Cup title at the RCF
Ground, Chembur, on Wednesday. Gbeneme Friday
and Cavin Lobo scored for Mumbai FC in the first half. Later, PC Lalwmpuia,
substitute in the second half, put the game beyond PIFA with a brace. The opening
minutes of the final were a cagey affair with neither side taking too many
chances. The I-League team chose to feed long balls to their forward Abhishek
Yadav to find an opening that came in the 18th minute. Yadav made a weak
attempt but Friday managed to convert the chance. One goal down,
PIFA displayed positive intent. But despite their energy levels, PIFA failed
to restore parity. Keeper Kishan Sulegai couldn't deal with Lobo's shot from
a narrow angle in the 33rd minute. Things got worse
for PIFA in the second half. Mazar Shaikh got sent off in the 65th minute for
a sliding tackle. Coming into the second half, Lalwmpuia struck twice to
double the margin for Mumbai. Mumbai FC coach
Khalid Jamil said, "It wasn't as easy a game as the scoreline indicates.
They are a good side and were missing a couple of players." Jamil's unit
starts their I-League campaign on October 23 against Air India in Pune. He
admitted that his side was hoping to have a better finish last season.
"Our main aim is to improve on our last year's position. We have a few
new players and have been training to make sure that they gel together. "In the
Nadkarni Cup, we have rotated our players in all the games to make sure that
most of them get game time because that is crucial to prepare for the league
campaign." Stopwatch:

MFC scrape past RCF; Enter Nadkarni Cup semifinal with a 2-1 win

defeated RCF 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Nadkarni Cup at the RCF Ground,
Chembur, on Saturday. Manuel D'Souza
and Ebi Sukore scored for the I-League side while Sunny Sangar pulled one
back for the home team as the action returned after a two day rain break. Defending
champions Mumbai FC were the favourites in the match but their performance in
the opening exchanges of the game did little to suggest their superiority.
Both sides took twenty minutes to settle down and both goalkeepers were
largely untested. Mumbai FC tried
to use the height of their international forward Abhishekh Yadav, but the RCF
defenders managed deal with the crosses. Eventually,
Yadav did play a part in giving his side the lead but not with his head. He
controlled a long ball on the right flank, in the 25th minute, and played a
delicate pass to D'souza who deflected it inside the far post. Coming into the
second half with a goal advantage, Mumbai FC slowed down the pace and tried
to keep possession. In the 76th minute, the visitors doubled their lead with
S Kutty Mani, receiving a high-ball, put it in the box with an overhead kick.
Sukore, who was unmarked, volleyed it past Joseph. Sangar's goal
gave RCF some hope late on in the game. When Praveen Sharma won a penalty.
However, the three minutes of regulation time plus the stoppages were not
enough for the home team to stage a comeback. Mumbai FC will take on Kenkre

Centre to take equity in RCF's ventures in Indonesia, Ghana
DNA (Daily News & Analysis)
26 September 2011
By Promit Mukherjee
|
[What follows is
the full text of the article.] The government
will invest in the overseas projects of Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers
(RCF) and National Fertilisers Ltd (NFL) to ensure faster and smoother
imports of urea. "Although
how much the government will invest is yet to be decided, we have an
assurance that it will put in equity in our projects in Ghana and
Indonesia," said R G Rajan, chairman and managing director, RCF. RCF currently
enjoys 10% market share in urea sales - and production. The projects in
Ghana and Indonesia would involve a total expenditure of `12,000 crore, or
`6,000 crore each, and will have a debt-equity of 2:1. Meaning, the
equity required for the projects would be `2,000 crore each, a part of which
would come from the government, Rajan said. Under an MoU
signed between the two governments, a gas-based 1 million tonne per annum
(mtpa) fertiliser plant will be set up in the African nation, with
commissioning likely by 2016-17. The project would also consist of a 2,000
tonne per day ammonia plant. "All major
details are worked out and we are in the final stages of deciding the pricing
and quantity of gas to be allocated to the plant," he said. However, its
Indonesia plant will be a coal-gassification based project with a similar
capacity, the details for which are currently being worked out. Besides, Ghana
and Indonesia, the company is currently looking at opportunities in Saudi
Arabia as well. With the
guidance on foreign operations, the company has finally provided some
visibility on its overseas plans, which had been hanging fire for quite some
time and were fast becoming a matter of concern for analysts and investors. Salil Garg,
senior researcher with Fitch Ratings, said though RCF is one of the better
fertiliser companies among the government-owned ones, what is difficult to
gauge is what will spur the growth of the industry in the country in the face
of paucity of gas. "There has
been no major greenfield or brownfield investment in the country in the last
ten years in fertilisers and with the gas availability situation worsening,
it becomes even grimmer," he said. In such a
scenario, an investment in overseas territories with assured supply of gas is
a big relief for investors, say some experts. "There is a
demand-supply mismatch of close to 7 mtpa in urea, which is currently
imported. With urea having a market share of over 50% in India's total
fertiliser consumptions and growing steadily, any investment of urea
domestically or overseas is a welcome move," said Satish Mishra,
analysts with brokerage Pinc Research. Copyright 2010

RCF follow-on offer likely next fiscal
DNA (Daily News & Analysis)
24 September 2011
By Promit Mukherjee
|
[What follows is
the full text of the article.] State-owned
Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF) plans to apply to the government
for a follow-on public offer (FPO) by the fourth quarter of this fiscal and
hit the market in the next, R G Rajan, chairman and managing director, said
on Friday. "While it
will be government's decision to decide how much equity to dilute, we will be
approaching the government for an FPO soon and would like to hit the markets
by 2012-13," he said. Currently, only
7.5% of the company is held by the public and it needs a further 12.5%
dilution to meet the norms laid down by the market regulator for public
sector undertakings. However, the FPO could see 15-20% stake diluted. It will be pure
government dilution and there will be no fresh infusion of equity by RCF as
it doesn't need to raise capital for its expansion plans, said Rajan.
"We have cash of over `600 crore and it is expected to increase further
in the next coming years so all our equity requirements could be easily met
through internal accruals." One of the most
ambitious projects the company has undertaken is of coal gasification, which
will be forward integrated to produce urea for RCF. The company, in
association with GAIL and Coal India, will set up a coal gasification unit at
Talcher in Orissa, with an outlay of `8,000 crore. "While `2,000 crore will
go into upstream business of production of syn gas from the project, the
downstream business will involve production of ammonia, nitric acid and urea
and will require the rest," said Rajan. The company will
be floating global tenders in the next two months and the ground work for the
project is expected to start in 18 months. The project is expected to be
ready over the next three years and will produce 3,500 metric tonnes of urea. Copyright 2010
