A contract has been announced by German navigation system supplier Raytheon Anschutz for an integrated bridge and navigation system for a fisheries research vessel. This vessel will be constructed at STX Finland Rauma for Namibia.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of the Republic of Namibia has ordered the 62m ship. Its delivery is expected to be in 2012.

In order to provide the integrated bridge and navigation system, the DP System and a GMDSS A3 radio station, Raytheon Anschutz has been selected by STX Finland.

The new vessel will have two radar and two ECDIS bridge workstations and a Conning workstation for the navigation bridge, all connected through Ethernet. The ECDIS and autopilot NP 5100 make an automatic track keeping system. For heading control, a redundant Standard 22 gyro compass system will interface with the DP system on the aft bridge.

A full package of navigation sensors, bridge navigational watch alarm system (BNWAS) and communication equipment will also be supplied under the deal.
