Gingrich advocacy group
shut down
UPI Top Stories: 27 August 2011
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
American Solutions
for Winning the Future, a fundraising and advocacy group developed by Newt Gingrich,
has shut down for lack of money, an official says.
Joe Gaylord, who
led the organization after Gingrich left, said it was closed down last month.
The Washington Post reported Friday an Aug. 1 filing with the Internal Revenue
Service showed American Solutions raised more than $2.4 million in the first
half of this year but its expenditures totaled almost $3 million.
"There's
nothing to say," Gaylord said. "We had difficulty raising money after
Newt left. ... We didn't want to run the organization into deep, deep, deep
debt. So we closed it down."
Gingrich, who is
seeking the Republican nomination for president, told the Post he hadn't heard
about the organization's financial woes and subsequent demise.
"I haven't
had anything to do with them since I left to run for president," Gingrich
said.
The newspaper said
American Solutions had raised more than $52 million in its first four years of
existence, with almost two-thirds of that amount going toward more fundraising.

Adman, doc team up
to create Long Island's newest technology venture, OnTime Care
Long Island Business News (NY): 08 July 2011
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
Just call them the
odd couple of the business world.
A medical doctor
and a marketing guru sure seem like an unlikely pair to start the Island's
newest technology venture, but Ken Greenberg, president and CEO of
Hauppauge-based marketing firm Austin & Williams, and Dr. Akram Boutros, a
former hospital executive turned founder and president of a health care
consulting firm, swear the partnership is the right mix to get Patient
Innovations, the newly created health care software development company, off
the ground.
Old friends,
Greenberg used to handle the marketing for South Nassau Communities Hospital,
where Boutros was an executive. Despite a few more moves around the hospital
business, Boutros remained close with Greenberg.
"One day Ken
came in to me and said, 'You know, wait times in doctor's offices are horrible.
Is there anything that can be done about that?'" Boutros said. "I
gave him some information and he suggested a web-based application. The more we
looked at it, the more of an opportunity it seemed to be for both of us."
Greenberg promises
Patient Innovations' first product, known as OnTime Care, will drastically
change the scheduling landscape at physicians' offices.
Before it does
that, however, Patient Innovations will not only have to raise the $2 million in
capital to get started, but also successfully differentiate itself from an
already crowded field.
There are about 3
million outpatient appointments scheduled across the nation each day, and of
those, about one-third start 30 minutes or later than their appointed times,
Boutros said. The idea behind OnTime Care is to create an easy-to-use interface
for scheduling appointments that uses algorithms to predict how long each
appointment will take and eliminate the need for double and triple booking, a
practice many physicians' offices have adopted to allow for no-shows and
cancellations, which increase waiting time for those who do show up.
"If a patient
waits 60 minutes or more, statistics show they are seven times more likely to
never go back to that physician's office or hospital," Boutros said.
Of course,
software can't always predict when a patient will spend an inordinate amount of
time asking questions, or when a routine 15-minute check-up will reveal a
serious health problem requiring time-consuming tests and observations.
"We're not
expecting 100 percent accuracy with scheduling appointments," Greenberg
said. "That's impossible. But we do believe we can get it right 90 percent
of the time."
And when delays do
happen, OnTime Care can automatically notify patients of the backlog via their
choice of text message, email or automated phone call. Patients can then
respond back whether they wish to keep the appointment or schedule a new one,
which can be done from their telephone, smartphone or computer.
If the concept
seems to sell itself, Patient Innovation isn't the originator.
"We quickly
found the field is crowded and many people have had an advantage over us in
terms of scale and entry into the market," Boutros said. "There are
definitely differences in software though. Just like cars on the road, many do
similar things, but none of them have the bells and whistles of a
Ferrari."
One similar
product that has beaten OnTime Care to market, MedWaitTime, also deals with
waiting room delays, although Greenberg argues his competitor's software
doesn't provide automatic updates but must be checked manually by the patient.
"There's been
a societal shift where everything is on demand and instantaneous,"
Greenberg said. "People expect that from every facet of their lives
now."
And patient
reminders are nothing new for doctors' offices. Many physicians, especially
dentists and optometrists, call patients the day before an appointment to
remind them of their impending visit.
"[Our system]
is not new in that sense, but it is new in that the patient can select how they
want to be notified," Greenberg said. "And since it's all automated,
that frees up the clerk to not have to make those phone calls so they can be
working on other things, improving efficiency even greater."
Of course, any new
software comes with a price tag, and at roughly $100,000 per year, OnTime Care
may seem too costly for some medical offices.
"It sounds
like a lot, but it actually works out to about $11.50 per patient for a small
practice and $6 for a larger one, like a hospital," Boutros said.
"And we estimate it will bring a 330 percent return on investment, so it
will more than pay for itself."
Greenberg and
Boutros aren't oblivious to the hurdles in their way. Even with their recent
hiring of American Solutions for Business, a national sales company, the pair
are projecting only about 100 sales after the first year, and having 471
customers by year five. The company also is starting to pitch potential
investors to help raise money to get the startup going.
They're off to a
good start though. Boutros said Patient Innovations will have at least two
customers by the end of the year, and has had positive conversations with
several other health practitioners.
"We're
speaking to customers locally and as far as Minnesota," Boutros said.
"We're just figuring out which customers would be the best fit right now.
We want committed customers because they'll be a reflection of us as much as we
will be of them."
Palestine is
indivisible: Leader
Mehr News Agency (MNA): 05 June 2011
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
TEHRAN, June 5
(MNA) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
has said that the Palestinian cannot be split up and entirely belongs to
Muslims. The Leader made the remarks during an address to thousands of
well-wishers who gathered on the campus of the mausoleum of the late Imam
Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Republic, to commemorate the 22nd
anniversary of his death on Saturday. "American solutions to the Palestine
issue will not bear any fruit, and the solution to this issue is what the
Islamic Republic of Iran proposed a few years ago, according to which the
regime that will rule over the entire Palestine will be elected through a
referendum held by the people of this country," the Leader stated.
"After the Palestinian nation's elected government is established in all
parts of this state, the people of Palestine will decide about the Zionists who
have come to this country from outside," he added. Elsewhere in his
remarks, the Leader commented on developments in the Arab countries which have
been experiencing pro-democracy uprisings. Having Islamic, anti-U.S.,
anti-Zionist, and democratic nature is the common characteristic of the
people's mass movements in the Middle East and North Africa, he stated.
"Wherever the Islamic Republic of Iran observes a movement with these
characteristics, it will sympathize with that. But if we see that the
provocation of the United States and the Zionists is at work, we will not
sympathize with that (movement) because we are confident that the Great Satan
and its allies will not do anything in favor of the nations," the Leader
observed. Commenting on the situation in Libya, he stated, "Libya is a
very important country, has large oil reserves, and is very close to Europe.
And the West has been seeking to weaken the country through igniting a civil
war so that it can take control of this (state) directly or indirectly
afterwards." Yemen is in a similar situation, the Leader added. He then
spoke about Saudi Arabia's military intervention in Bahrain, saying,
"Everyone knows that the Saudis could not do so without the green light of
the United States.
Therefore, the
U.S. is also responsible for the events taking place in Bahrain." In
conclusion, the Leader warned that the hegemonistic powers are making efforts
to sow discord between regional countries and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iranians' spirit inspires Mideast uprisings Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Hassan
Khomeini, the grandson of Imam Khomeini, also delivered a speech to the
gathering, in which he said that the pro-democracy uprisings in the Middle East
and North Africa have been inspired by the Iranian nation's
"independence-seeking spirit." Hegemons have run out of energy President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also made a speech at the mausoleum of the late Imam
Khomeini on Friday. "Today the hegemonistic powers have run out of their
historic energy and fuel," Ahmadinejad said, adding that the hegemonistic
system will collapse soon. EP/PA MNA
Gingrich raising
little in campaign funds
UPI Top Stories: 20 April 2011
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
Newt Gingrich is
lagging in fundraising for a U.S. presidential run, his financial reports show.
The former U.S. House
speaker's American Solutions political action committee took in only $53,000 in
the first three months of this year, Politico reported Wednesday, citing a
report it filed with the Federal Election Commission Tuesday night.
American Solutions
for Winning the Future, Gingrich's 527 committee which is not regulated by the
FEC, has raised tens of millions, but those funds cannot be spent directly on a
campaign.
The PAC has raised
$790,000 since being created in late 2009, while the 527 took in $13.7 million
in 2010 alone; it does not need to report its 2011 figures until July.
If he declares a
candidacy, Gingrich will be forbidden to raise money for or spend from any
entity other than an FEC-registered presidential campaign committee.
AEHI CEO Donald
Gillispie Honored as 2010 Businessman of the Year by Newt Gingrich at Election
Night Dinner
GlobeNewswire: 01 December 2010
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
WASHINGTON, Dec.
1, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Former Speaker of the House and General Chairman of
American Solutions, Newt Gingrich, recently honored AEHI CEO Donald Gillispie,
as American Solutions' 2010 @Businessman of the Year. Speaker Gingrich
recognized Donald Gillispie at the American Solutions Election Night Dinner on
November 2nd at The Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C.
"Led by
leaders like Donald Gillispie, who has succeeded in the face of adversity and
economic turmoil, our victory on November 2nd was just the start to what will
prove to be an historic Conservative movement to reject the left and provide
common sense Center-Right Leadership."
According to
American Solutions, as the economy spiraled into recession, President Obama and
the Democrats in Congress offered no solutions for almost two years.
Instead, they introduced one job killing bill after another, forced unpopular
and corrupt socialized health-care reform through Congress, and have refused to
take any responsibility whatsoever for their inaction, deciding instead to
blame others for their failures. Donald Gillispie, on the other hand, has
taken these challenges head on and managed to survive - and even succeed - in
an extremely hostile and uncertain economic environment.
