CP Kelco Xanthan
Gum Receives US EPA Design for Environment Registration CP Kelco
China Weekly News:
10 August 2011
[What follows is
the full text of the news story.]
CP Kelco's
KELTROL and KELZAN lines of xanthan gum products have been evaluated by
an independent testing lab and have been registered on the recognized
ingredient list for the United States Environmental Protection Agency Design
for the Environment (DfE) program.
The US EPA DfE
program establishes criteria to be met by ingredients used in household
consumer products. Products bearing the DfE logo signify to the consumer that
these products and ingredients can help protect the environment and are safer
for families.
"The trend in
household consumer products industries is to move away from synthetic and
petroleum-based materials and formulate with either plant-based or natural
viscosifiers," says Jacqueline Compton, Technical Service Representative
of Consumer and Industrial Applications for CP Kelco. "This registration,
along with our application expertise in formulating with natural polymers,
helps customers formulate more nature-friendly products; we're really excited
about the possibilities this recognition opens."
This registration
is the first achieved through an initiative by CP Kelco to obtain DfE
registration for all of our nature-based rheology modifiers, suspension aids
and functional additives. For information on how to formulate with CP Kelco
products including KELTROL and KELZAN xanthan gums, please contact CP Kelco
directly.
For more
information on the EPA's Design for the Environment initiative and use of the
DfE logo, please visit their website at: www.epa.gov/dfe. ABOUT CP KELCO: CP

CP Kelco Announces a Family of Products Compliant
to New Pharmacopoeias Specifications
Business Wire: 02 May 2011
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS
WIRE)-- In anticipation of customer requirements for products that comply to
upgraded and harmonized test methods, CP Kelco has developed a set of products
that are compliant to the regulatory requirements specified in the recent
initiative to align international pharmacopoeias. In addition to harmonization,
the new USP <61> and <62> methods are now more inclusive for more
organisms.
CP Kelcos
family of compliant products includes special grades of xanthan gum, pectin and
cellulose gum that are tested under the new and expanded microbial
requirements.
In order to reduce
duplication and the time taken for products to become available in different
markets, the Pharmacopoeial Discussion Group (PDG) and the International
Conference on the Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Registration of
Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) have sought to harmonize the differing
regional standards and specifications.
Considerable
time can be saved by selecting products that have already been validated
according to the recommended methods in the European and United States
Pharmacopoeias, which have been designed to help manufacturers comply with
changing regulatory requirements, states Jane Schulenburg, Global Marketing
Director, CP Kelco.

CP Kelco Receives
2010 North American Food Ingredients Technology Innovation of the Year Award
Business Wire: 23
February 2011
[What follows is the
full text of the news story.]
NEW
ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- At an awards ceremony held in early February, Ted
Russin represented CP Kelco to receive the Frost & Sullivan 2010 North
American Food Ingredients Technology Innovation of the Year Award for its
patent pending Triple Layer Self-Separating Dessert Gel concept. The Technology
Innovation of the Year Award is a prestigious recognition of CP Kelcos
accomplishments in the food ingredients market.
The invention was
awarded due to the uniqueness of the technology, impact on new
products/applications, impact on functionality, impact on customer value, and
relevance of innovation to industry.
Ted Russin,
Scientist, describes the basic principle behind this invention: Through a
density gradient, created by blending fat-based emulsifiers, an aqueousphase
with KELCOGEL F gellan gum and incorporated air, we can create a homogenous
stream that rapidly separates into different phases and eventually sets into a
layeredgelled dessert. KELCOGEL F gellan gumis unique in that it
creates athin viscosity in thewarm aqueousmatrixwhichallows for
theeffective separation of the emulsifier layers during cooling and setting.
The creation of a
single stream process that can separate into three distinct layers is
considered a technological advancement. Customers prefer desserts which can
give them multiple sensory inputs with the same serving portion. A layered
dessert satisfies this need, as different textures and potentially different
sensory experiences can be offered within the same portion. This innovation
gives manufacturers the ability to process two or three layered desserts
effectively and efficiently.

CP Kelco Xanthan
Gum Secures US EPA Design for Environment Registration
Manufacturing
Close-Up
05 August 2011
[What follows is
the full text of the article.]
CP Kelco's Keltrol
and Kelzan lines of xanthan gum products have been evaluated by an independent
testing lab and have been registered on the recognized ingredient list for the
United States Environmental Protection Agency Design for the Environment (DfE)
program.
According to a
release, the US EPA DfE program establishes criteria to be met by ingredients
used in household consumer products. Products bearing the DfE logo signify to
the consumer that these products and ingredients can help protect the
environment and are safer for families.
For information on how to formulate with CP Kelco
products including Keltrol and Kelzan xanthan gums, please contact CP Kelco
directly.
CP Kelco is a global manufacturer and marketer of specialty
hydrocolloids, with facilities in Europe, North America, Asia and Latin
America.
