Comments : |
Subject is an established company having moderate track. There appears
to be huge accumulated losses recorded by the company. However, trade
relations are reported as fair. Business is active. Payments are reported to
be slow. The company can be considered for business dealings with some caution.

MARKET ENVIRONMENT
AND OUTLOOK
While the financial year 2009-10 ended with a rebound of the Solar
Industry and the market, the year had started out as a challenging one for the
global solar industry, given the rolling effect of the global economic
meltdown, the consequent credit crunch and an unexpected cap in the incentive
program by the Spanish Government. Added to this was the huge capacity build-up
of photovoltaic capacities in
However, after a dull first half, growth rebounded in the second half of
the year with improving credit conditions. All major markets remained firm,
with the strongest growth evident in
As global economies take action to mitigate climate change, the global
energy infrastructure is set to undergo a fundamental reshaping to create a
prominent role for the renewable energy sector. Renewable electricity
represented 2.5% of worldwide electricity generation in 2008 and could
represent more than 20% of worldwide electricity generation, as policies to
promote renewable energy are implemented globally over the next 20 years as per
an independent analyst report.
AN OVERVIEW OF DEVELOPMENTS:
While this happens to be the first commercial production year for the
company, significant traction was seen to establish the Company as a
cutting-edge technology player in Amorphous-Silicon Thin Film module. It took
us considerably longer than anticipated to stabilize the line and understand
the technical parameters and acquire the skills necessary to run such a complex
and fully automated line. However, by the onset of the winter months, they were
able to run the line efficiently with substantial improvement in all technical
metrics. In the last quarter of the year, the Company switched from producing
quarter-panels to full-panels (5.72 square meters) which will give the company
a unique selling proposition in the market in the coming years since it reduces
the customer’s real-estate and balance-of-systems costs and enable the company
to compete more effectively with Crystalline Silicon technology which has
become more cost effective due to the huge fall in silicon prices. On the
efficiency improvement front too, their process team has effectively achieved
world’s highest single junction Amorphous- Silicon thin-film module efficiency
of 7.3% on the existing production lines with process re-engineering in the
laboratory and we are slowly ramping it up on commercial scale.
This is a significant achievement as this has been done without any
capital expenditure and completely in-house, demonstrating the Company’s
technological prowess. Once fully commercialized, this would also take up their
capacity to almost 50 MW pa from the present 40 MW pa at the Greater Noida
Plant. In view of the market expansion, on the distribution and marketing side,
the Company has taken a decision to go direct to the customers in order to
develop the feel of the market and to help serve customers better.
FUTURE PLAN OF
ACTION:
·
A major initiative has been launched to drive full
size module manufacturing cost down by working out various strategies including
stabilizing module efficiencies, improving throughput and achieving a better
OEE and Plant yield
·
Work towards increased efficiency. The same would
be possible by:-
o
Integrating tandem technology with textured TCO
substrates;
o
Improving the back reflection layer
Expansion Plans
The Company has now entered into agreements with a leading German
technology supplier to also enter the Crystalline Silicon technology and
intends to commence commercial manufacture of both solar cells (app. 90 MW
capacity) and modules (app. 100 MW capacity). The state-of-the-art Line is
being imported and set up in Greater Noida as a new SEZ Unit and will cater to
the high efficiency segment of the global photovoltaic market which is
predominantly the rooftop segment and where higher efficiency technology like
Crystalline-Silicon is more amenable
than Thin Film. At the minimum guaranteed average efficiency of 16.3% on
multicrystalline wafers (with
potential to go upto 17.5% for monocrystalline wafers), this unit will
cater to the high growth segment of Crystalline Silicon at efficiency levels
where there is substantial unmet demands. This project will uniquely position
the Company as one of very few solar manufacturers globally to straddle
multiple technology platforms and will substantially de-risk the Company and
increase its attractiveness and potential. Substantial infusion of funds from
its ultimate parent company have been made in the form of Preference Capital,
to strengthen the Company’s net worth and enhance its leverage capability.
The Company firmly believes that Thin Film is the ideal solution for

Press Release
Moser Baer emerges as the 1st solar
PV manufacturing company globally to be accredited with ‘Green Leaf Mark’
certification by
November 23, 2011
These ‘Green Leaf’ compliant solar PV modules adhere to the EU RoHS and WEEE * regulations and will help its customers accrue multiple benefits in future.
Talking about this environment friendly and carbon reducing Green Leaf certified modules, Vivek Chaturvedi, Chief Marketing Officer, MBSL, said: “We are now focussing on making our modules cleaner by removing ingredients that have polluting elements in it. Significantly, we are also working on making them leaner in the next 8-12 weeks to cater to burgeoning solar market.” He further added, “We stay committed to a simultaneous launch of products world-wide to cater to the environment conscious burgeoning markets.”
Emphasizing on the initiative, he elaborated that lead free Solar PV modules can be easily disposed off after their life span of 20-25 years thereby, protecting human health and the environment from ill effects of lead poisoning. Even though most of the solar farms are commissioned on barren land, a Green leaf certified farm will prevent any land contamination.
What does RoHS (Restriction on the use of certain Hazardous Substances) imply
The EU RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC restricts the use of six environmentally hazardous substances namely Lead (Pb),Mergury (Hg),Cadmium (Cd) ,hexavalent Chromium( Cr6), Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated Diphenyl ether (PBDE) in following product categories like a) Household appliances b) IT and telecommunication equipment c) consumer equipment d) lighting equipment e) electrical and electronic equipment f) toys, leisure and sports equipment g) automatic dispensers etc
WEEE:
European Union’s Waste Electronics and Electrical Equipment Directive (WEEE
2002/96/EC) placed the obligation of recycling (including collection,
treatment, and environmentally friendly disposal) of electrical and electronic
equipment (EEE) products upon manufacturers. The goal is to reduce electronic
waste, protecting human health and the environment from hazardous substances.
Failure to comply with the WEEE Directive places these manufacturers at risk
for prosecution and inability to place their products in the EU market.
REACH:
REACH is the European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use
(EC 1907/2006). It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and
Restriction of Chemical substances. The law entered into force on 1 June 2007.
The aim of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and the
environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic
properties of chemical substances. At the same time, REACH aims to enhance
innovation and competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry. The benefits of
the REACH system will come gradually, as more and more substances are phased
into REACH.
Eco Design:
Ecodesign aims at reducing the environmental impact of products, including the energy consumption throughout their entire life cycle.
About Intertek:
Intertek is the industry leader for certifying quality, environmental, safety
and social accountability standards of products world-wide. They hold extensive
global accreditations, recognitions, and agreements and reputed to be the
premier certifying agency.
