Business
Description
|
Northrop Grumman Italia, formerly Lital S.p.A., has been established and
incorporated as an obligation by Lockheed and Litton to the Italian
Government to meet obligations from the sale of F-104 fighters. These
obligations were met by assembling new LN-3 navigation systems and
overhauling existing systems for the F-104 aircraft at Lital Italia's plant
through its facilities all around the world of high technology, and defence.
Operating as an Italian workshare within the terms of European collaborative
programs in the early 70s, Northrop Grumman Italia designs and developments
work on the Tornado aircraft program, utilizing available Lital technology.
During 1972, Lital Italia formed its first design and development engineering
team for the AHRS program of the Tornado and since then, it has refined this
model to further expand its own markets in Italy and across Europe. In 2001
Litton Italia was acquired by Northrop Grumman Corporation, changing its name
to Lital and then, in 2007 to Northrop Grumman Italia, to optimize its
branding and strengthen its identity with the $30 billion global defense and
technology Corporation. |

[What follows is
the full text of the news story.] Sikorsky
Aerospace Services (SAS) announced on Monday an exclusive sales and
distribution agreement with Northrop Grumman Corporation'sItaly-based
subsidiary, Northrop Grumman Italia (NGI), to equip BLACK HAWK utility
aircraft with its NAVEX-12 Air Navigation System. NAVEX-12 is a
lightweight Fibre-Optic Gyroscope Attitude Heading Reference System (FOG
AHRS) designed as an upgrade solution to replace older mechanical Vertical
Gyros compatible with Sikorsky's H-60A and H-60L platforms. The company said
that the NAVEX-12, certified to military standards, provides a lower weight,
more reliable, fibre-optic air navigation system for BLACK HAWK utility
helicopters. With OEM compatibility, NAVEX-12 will enhance SAS' strategic
upgrade program for revitalising helicopters eventually sold through the US
government's Excess Defence Articles (EDA) programme. Also, the
agreement allows SAS to offer the NAVEX-12 for installation on other rotary-
and fixed-wing aircraft. Northrop Grumman
Corporation (NYSE:NOC) is a leading global security company. Sikorsky
Aerospace Services is the worldwide aftermarket division of helicopter
manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft Corp, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp

[What follows is
the full text of the article.] Northrop Grumman
Corporation's Navigation Systems Division subsidiary, Northrop Grumman Italia
(NGI), has successfully achieved recertification of its Quality Management
System under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001
and EN/AS9100 standards. NGI, based near
Rome, received the recertification in July following a rigorous independent
audit of its systems by Det Norske Veritas, a global provider of accredited
management system certification. "This
reflects our continuing commitment to quality, customers and a willingness to
work towards improving efficiency all strategic objectives that NGI has
pursued for more than a decade," said Helen Pickup, general manager of
Northrop Grumman Italia. "Striving to achieve high performance and
efficiency while offering superior value is at the forefront of our daily
business." To be certified,
companies must implement a quality management system that encompasses the
enterprise's activities, including management responsibility; resource
management; product realization; and measurement, analysis and improvement. NGI has a
history of standardizing its manufacturing and engineering processes,
fulfilling ISO requirements for quality assurance. The facility received its
first ISO 9001 certification in July 1997, followed by a recertification in
September 2003. In 2008, NGI received its first EN 9100 certification, which
is based on ISO 9001, but defines an additional set of specialized standards
for aerospace companies. EN 9100 is published by the European Association of
Aerospace Industries and is known as AS9100 in the U.S. ISO is the
world's largest developer and publisher of international standards for
business, government and society. ISO 9001 is a quality management standard
that offers a systematic approach to managing an organization's processes to
meet customer expectations. Northrop Grumman
is a leading global security company providing innovative systems, products
and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, and technical
services to government and commercial customers worldwide. |
