In December 2010, TE Connectivity acquired ADC
Telecommunications, Inc. [ADC] – a leading global provider of connectivity
products for wireline, wireless, cable, broadcast and enterprise networks. The addition of ADC expanded Tyco
Electronics’ network solutions offering and added Distributed Antenna System
(DAS) products for the wireless market.
In March 2011, the Groups’ shareholders approved an
amendment to its articles of association to change its name from “Tyco
Electronics Ltd.” to “TE Connectivity Ltd.”
The name change was effective 10th March, 2011. Its ticker symbol “TEL” on the New York Stock
Exchange remained unchanged.
Now, TE Connectivity operates through three reporting
segments: Transportation Solutions, Communications and Industrial Solutions,
and Network Solutions.
TE Connectivity is a leader in many of the markets it
serves, and the opportunity for growth in those markets is significant. It believes its three segments serve a
combined approximately US$90 billion market that is expected to grow at an estimated annual growth rate
of 6% over the next five years.
At present, TE
Connectivity is significantly larger than many of its competitors. In the fragmented connector industry, which
it estimated to be approximately US$48 billion in fiscal 2011, its net sales
were approximately US$8.5 billion. It
has established a global leadership position in the connector industry with

sales increased by 18.6% as compared with net sales of US$12,070 million in
fiscal 2010; net income for the year was US$1,245 million, grew by 12.9% as
compared with US$1,103 million in FY 2010.
