Symbiosis is an educational institutions imparting quality education for over 30 years.

 

Symbiosis is a family of 32 academic institutions spread across eight campuses in and around Pune, sister city to Mumbai - India's commercial capital, and is host to over 30,000 Indian and international students on campus.


These campuses epitomize the Symbiosis motto, "Promoting International Understanding through Quality Education" and are a beehive of international students from all across the globe, being privy to Indian culture and hospitality. Many of these campuses are fully residential complete with recreational facilities that include swimming pools, amphitheatres and health care centers. Besides this, Symbiosis has over 80,000 students participating in its distance learning programmes.

In 1971, Dr. S.B. Mujumdar established the Symbiosis International Cultural and Educational Centre in Pune primarily to promote friendship, co-operation and understanding between foreign and Indian students and to cater to the needs and difficulties of foreign students studying in Pune, mostly Afro-Asian students. Since then, he has established 32 institutions under the aegis of 'Symbiosis' that impart training in 100 different courses ranging from KG, Primary, Secondary Education to Law, Human Resource Development, Foreign Trade, Management, Computer, Arts and Commerce, Mass Communication, Telecommunication, Information Technology etc. Symbiosis today is a premier educational group in Pune and possesses exceptional brand equity in the sphere of management education.

 

 

DR. VIDYA YERAVDEKAR

Principal Director

 

Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, the Joint Director of Symbiosis Society is a doctor, a gynecologist, who also has a degree in law to add to her qualification.


Born in 1964, she imbibed the zeal for social and educational work through her father, Dr. S. B. Mujumdar. She has traveled widely to countries like UK, USA, UAE, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia etc. On these tours she has participated in educational fairs and has interacted with students and parents in an attempt to promote higher Indian education abroad.


She has also developed close contacts with the Ministries of Education in different countries. By liaisoning with these departments she is able to understand the specific needs of the youth of those countries. Under her administration at Symbiosis, these needs are then met and provided for, in an attempt to increase the comfort level of the foreign students at Symbiosis.


Dr. Vidya's main interest is to carry forward the vision of her father, Dr. S. B. Mujumdar - by promoting international understanding through quality education. Being a member of the Board of Management of the Symbiosis Society and Symbiosis International University, she contributes to the overall planning and development of Symbiosis. She has been instrumental in collaborations of Symbiosis with some of the world-class universities.

 

 

DR. BHUSHAN PATWARDHAN

Vice Chancellor of SIU

 

With over 20 years in academic and University governance he brings a unique blend of Industry-Academia executive culture. Over 200 publications, 8 Patents and 18 PhD students, he has attracted substantial research funding from national and international agencies. He was Director of Interdisciplinary School of Health sciences of the University of Pune for over 10 years; Chief of Academics of Manipal Education Group for three years and also founding Director of Institute of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine Bangalore. He is founder Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine and one of the top cited authors of Elsevier's SciTopics. He has been a Convener of national committee on Promotion of Indian Higher Education Abroad (PIHEAD) of the UGC; member of Boards of several Universities and national institutions such NIPER, CSIR NBRI, ICMR RRC; member Taskforce of National Knowledge Commission and Planning Commission; Karnataka Innovation Council; Consultant to WHO Geneva and SEARO. As Convener of Vision Group of EDGE Forum he is providing remarkable leadership for innovations in higher education sector. As Vice Chancellor of Symbiosis International University he will lead the effort to strengthen research, innovation and entrepreneurship as well as addition of new disciples in biomedical sciences and humanities.

 

 

SYMBIOSIS SOCIETY

 

Symbiosis, capturing the spirit of its biological meaning, was formed as an international cultural and educational center in 1971 primarily to promote global understanding between Indian and foreign students through education. Today, the Symbiosis Society proudly runs 32 academic institutions ranging from kindergarten to postgraduate institutes. Thousands of students from over 32 countries pursue studies at Symbiosis Institutes. In Symbiosis, excellence is a passion. A competent, dedicated and devoted Director heads each institute. The managing committee of Symbiosis comprises of eminent academicians, industrialists, bankers and social workers, who with their knowledge and experience guide the activities of this society.

 

 

MANAGEMENT AT SCIT


Dr. R Raman

Director

 

Dr. R Raman has a blend of corporate and academic experience. He started his career with Godrej and Boyce and then ventured into the area of consultancy with - The Leading Edge Consulting Services. His Passion for academics led him into teaching assignment at Vellore Institute of Technology. Carleton University's Sprott School of Business, Canada gave him the platform for global exposure in teaching Information Technology while he was handling the teaching assignment with Kohinoor Business School along with the consulting assignment as an Information Technology Architect with the Kohinoor group of companies for the various verticals including Real Estate, Hotels, Hospitals, Education and Power Generation. He also taught at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research Mumbai.


Dr. Raman is a Computer Science and Engineering graduate from Madras University, he completed his MBA in Information Systems from the same University. He furthered his education by completing his Postgraduate Diploma in Software Marketing, M. Phil (Management) and Ph. D in Information Technology Enabled Services Strategy. He is a Six Sigma Green Belt and Six Sigma Black Belt Certified by RABQSA (Registrar Accreditation Board Quality Society of Australasia). He is also an Accredited Management Teacher, (a prestigious national recognition conferred by AIMA) and Green IT certified by ISEB.


His teaching and research area include Management Information Systems, Disruptive Technologies, IT Infrastructure Management, IT Project Management, Management of Information Technology Enabled Services and Green IT. He has published his research finding in several refereed journals and also has presented several papers in Indian and International conferences.

 

 

CAMPUS

 

Located in the hub of the IT industry, Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Pune, SCIT campus is central to the dynamic IT environment. The IT majors such as Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro etc. lend to the atmosphere. The campus is fully residential and provides excellent facilities to students. The campus also has a fully equipped and functional gymnasium and swimming pool. Excellent healthcare facilities are provided on campus with a resident doctor, mini operation theater and a tie-up with a local hospital for emergency services. There is also a modern 400-seater auditorium and an open-air amphitheater. The campus facilities include faculty housing and a guesthouse.


The Campus is run by Chief Administrator, who manages the entire campus infrastructure and amenities. The facilities include security, garden, housekeeping, mess, ATM counter etc.

 

 

MODERN INFRASTRUCTURE

 

Academic Block

 

SCIT's state-of-the-art learning resources are a boost to its programmes. All seven of SCIT's classrooms have network and Internet connectivity to facilitate presentations and demonstrations. Audio-visual equipments like OHP, LCD projectors, and tape-recorder, TV etc. are used for delivering lectures. An 8 Mbps leased line keeps the campus well-connected.

 

 

Computer Labs

 

Computer Labs are equipped with a rich suite of software packages and also hardware. Three different platforms viz. Windows, Solaris and Linux make them the right place for developing platform-independent professionals. Lab practical on SW development methodology and business management are carried out in the different terminal clusters. Besides, SCIT being subscriber to MSDNAA and IBM academic initiative gives access to a range of latest software. SCIT has University alliances with SAP as well .Thus the students are privy to on-line SAP courses conducted in the Lab.


The labs with 120 computers in form a major resource deliver programmes based on University Alliances with SAP and also IBM.

 

 

'Proof of Concept' Lab

 

A unique facility with diverse networking environments and platforms, it gives a free arena to students to experiment with different technologies and products for simulating diverse environments. For example, student's experiments with security mechanisms have led to the deployment of a centralized authentication mechanism in SCIT's own multi-platform environment. Students work on advanced areas such as high performance networks, security, messaging etc. fully utilizing the facilities in the Proof of Concept Lab. POC Lab provides the student necessary equipment and also independent link to set up simulated environment to experiment various network concepts and practices, such as, fixed line wireless integration,ethical hacking, Voice commands, virtualization of servers and storage, MPLS

 

 

Modern Library

 

SCIT has modern library facilities with more than 6,000 books on technology and management and nearly 1000 CD's.

The students have access to nearly 20,000 books housed in the same building by sister institutes.


SCIT students look forward to and actively participate in Book Reviews which are held regularly. Certificates are awarded for Best Book Review and also to all those who review books.

 

 

Hostel and Amenities

 

The campus has separate hostels for boys and girls with well-equipped rooms. It has wi-fi network connectivity. Each room has an attached bath with hot and cold water facility. The campus security extends its services round-the-clock.

The mess caters Indian vegetarian food with a menu managed by student teams. It provides breakfast and two meals daily to nearly 1200 students.

Health Care Centre

 

Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) – is the in-house health care centre of Symbiosis. SCHC takes care of health care needs of the entire Symbiosis family.
