PROFILE:

The Podar Group of Schools has been started and operates with the prime purpose of building young minds to spearhead a dynamic future globally.

Podar's stated vision is a commitment to operate and manage quality schools that provide quality education with a focus on development that is in sync with the needs of the individual child in an era of globalization.

In 1927 Sheth Anandilal Podar, an eminent Mumbai-based businessman, with interests in cotton mills, founded the Podar Group of Schools. Interestingly, Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of Nation, was the first President of the Anandilal Podar Trust What began as a single institution is today a multi-school, multi-city, multi-brand entity, ambitiously executing a growth strategy with an emphasis on global standards.

Headquartered in Mumbai with 7 schools in Santacruz (West), there are now Podar Schools all across India.

Podar is a growing network which has a wide spectrum of brands including Pre-Primary options, Primary and Secondary schools, a Junior College, Part-Time courses and Teacher Training courses.

There are also a wide choice of educational streams that are offered at Podar including CBSE, ICSE, Secondary School Certificate (State Board), IGCSE (Cambridge) and International Baccalaureate (IB).

Podar has managed to achieve the success it has had due to its excellently recruited teaching team as well as its focus on technology. Extensive training is given to all the teachers and it is ensured that they teach students in the best possible manner. There is a great dedication and commitment found in Podar's Principals and Teachers, many of whom have been honoured by both the Central and State Governments. The use of technology in teaching is also strongly emphasized in all Podar schools, with state-of-the-art computer labs and interactive boards installed in classrooms. Due to its effective use of technology in education, the Podar group of schools was awarded the "best ICT enabled school" in all of India.

Podar School has established a "Curriculum Research and Development Centre" (CRDC) that ensures that the quality of education in its schools is of the highest standard, no matter where the school is located. After much research, the CRDC sets lesson plans and curriculums which is followed by all the Podar International Schools across India. Members of the CRDC also travel from school to school training the teachers on the latest developments in education initiated by Podar.

At Podar, the goal is for the students to excel both in and outside of the classroom. Therefore, extensive emphasis is given to sports and extra-curricular activities. Specialized and experienced coaches are deployed in a wide spectrum of sporting disciplines. The schools participate and excel in various inter school sports tournaments. An inter Podar sports tournament is also organized in which students from the different Podar schools compete against each other in sports such as Basketball, Football, Cricket, etc.

All these academic and non academic efforts have paid enormous dividends. Podar Schools are considered among the 'Best Quality' Schools wherever they operate. The ICSE and CBSE Board results of Podar Schools are consistently among the best in the city the school is located.

Podar's commitment to society is unwavering. Ever since its inception 84 years ago it does not accept donations or deposits. The commitment to education continues to be focused and firm.

Podar also continues to tap into social change with an integrated policy of social responsibility. It operates a school for the deaf and dumb in Jaipur. It also supports a city hospital in the heart of Mumbai. A few years back, at the suggestion of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the school adopted 1000 tribal girls and gave them free education. The Podars are also custodians of a Hindu temple in Santacruz, Mumbai.

NEWS:

PODAR EDUCATION TRUST TO START TWO SCHOOLS

MAY 8, 2009

PUNE: Mumbai-based Podar Education Trust announced here on Thursday its move to start two international standards CBSE and ICSE schools at Ambedgaon and at Ambethan near Chakan, respectively, from June 2009. The new schools would offers academic programmes from pre-school to std V, said Vijaya Wad, consultant to the Podar Trust.

The trust, which had Mahatma Gandhi as one of its trustees when it started in 1927, boasts of some nationally and internationally known figures as its alumni. They include former judge of the Supreme Court justice Sujata Manohar, socialist leader Mrunal Gore, Marathi poet late Niranjan Udgane, among others. In Mumbai, the trust runs schools affiliated to the ICSE, CBSE, IGCSE and the IB boards that collectively account for 20,000 students.

According to Wad, in the last four years, the Podar trust initiated a conscious move to spread its wings outside Mumbai with an intent of taking good and quality education to the rural and semi-urban areas. Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad form a key part of this expansion plan, she said.

"Four years ago, we started an ICSE school at Pimpri, which is now set to roll out its first batch of std X passouts," Wad said, adding, another school, affiliated to the CBSE board, was started two years back at Chinchwad. This apart, the trust launched ICSE and CBSE schools at Aurangabad and Jalna, respectively.

Wad said, "We have acquired one acre land each at Ambegaon and Ambethan." The school buildings are under construction, she said, and added that the buildings would have facilities like international furniture, computer labs, libraries, special classrooms for students to pursue hobbies like music, dance, drama, yoga and skating, among other things.

"The pre-school activity would focus on developing the motor skills of kids by encouraging them to engage in non-academic activities of their choice," she said.

The trust plans to start three more schools at Wakad, Bavdhan and Kondhwa from the next academic year (2010-11), Wad added.

To a question, Wad said, "Our USP is excellent staff and excellent infrastructure and that is what we will be taking to most of the new locations where we are setting up schools." She added that the trust has been sending its teachers to countries like the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia and the United States for training in international teaching and learning processes.

Wad said that at least 4,000 of the existing 20,000 students at Podar schools in Mumbai were being offered free of cost education through Marathi and Hindi medium of instruction. "It has been a decision of the head of the trust, Pawan Podar, to ensure that these kids get the same facilities that are available to other children of the Podar schools."
