INDIAN ECONOMIC OVERVIEW
US investment bank
Goldman Sachs has upgraded its outlook on Indian markets as it expects
positive impact of the election cycle.
India’s economy may
grow 4.7 % in the current financial year, lower than the official estimate of
4.9 %, Fitch Rating said. The global rating agency expects the economy to pick
up in the next two financial years.
Global ratings
agency Standard & Poor said increasing focus by India Inc on lowering debt
is likely to improve their credit profiles.

Bharti Airtel has
raised Rs.2453.2 crore (350 million Swiss Francs) by selling six-year bonds at
a coupon rate of three per cent and maturing in 2020. This is the largest ever
bond offering by an Indian company in Swiss Francs. Bharat Petroleum
Corporation raised 175 million Swiss Francs by selling five year bonds at 2.98
% coupon rate in February.
Indian Oil
Corporation plans to invest Rs 7650 crore in setting up a petrochemical complex
at its almost complete Paradip refinery in Odhisha in three to four years. The
company board is set to consider the setting up of a 700000 tonne per annum
polypropylene plant at an estimated cost at Rs.3150 crore.

PRIORITIES
· The University envisages comprehensive academic excellence by adopting an integrated approach involving students, staff and community.
· In order to achieve international standards, the activities are to be identified by the faculty and authorities.

· Periodical combined meetings of BOS of both U.G. and P.G. courses with thrust in multidisciplinary activities.
· The existing programmes will further be strengthened also through introduction of restructured and innovative courses.
VI. Extension Activates
· The University plans to play effective role in supporting and facilitating the organizing process and providing scientific and technical guidance and advice for comprehensive societal development.
· It intends to support this effort in many ways: by providing leadership and vision and technical assistance in organizational development; by offering meeting space; by providing technical and knowledge based consultation service; by identifying resource persons; by involving students in community development programmes.
· The activities are related to identifying the community needs and providing solutions and conducting training programs in the use of new technologies and schemes of governmental and private agencies engaged in integrated development of community encompassing urban and rural areas. This helps in effective dissemination of the knowledge, which is the need of the hour.
VII. Promotion of Distance Learning Programmes both at UG and PG Levels in various disciplines
· One of the challenges posed by globalization is the entry of Foreign Universities into India with highly attractive course modules in the Distance learning mode. Distance Education has therefore become very convenient, economic and cost-effective for the common man. The University proposes to strengthen the Directorate of Distance Education as a model institution to attract large number of students into its fold. The DDE in course of time will emerge as a nodal center for the promotion of education besides meeting the financial needs of the University for its further development.
