DELHI'S SIR GANGA RAM HOSPITAL TO USE STATE-OF-THE-ART AMRITA HEALTH SOFTWARE, 5TH JULY 2014

KOLLAM: Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, one of the renowned hospitals in the country, has signed up with Amrita Technologies to implement and deploy the latter’s state-of-the-art hospital management software to power clinical and back-office functions across the hospital.

Amrita’s health software, Amrita Healthcare Informatics Suite (Amrita HIS), will provide the next-generation healthcare IT solutions to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, stated a press release on Monday.

Amrita Technologies, one of the few CCHIT certified vendors in the world, is a leading company in healthcare informatics. It has helped many hospitals and networks become more patient centric, provide better quality of care and at the same time optimize operations.

Amrita’s completely web-based HIS, which is now being used by major super specialty hospitals, stores over 5 million patient Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) per year and processes thousands of transactions daily.

Amrita’s software suite, built with EMR as its foundation, provides an integrated as well as modular solution across both clinical and back-office functions.

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Board of Management chairman Dr D S Rana talked about the partnership: “We chose Amrita’s solution from among several other vendors given the depth of their solution and the integrity of the Amrita team. We are confident that our hospital team and Amrita’s technical team will work together to make this project a great success.”

Amrita Technologies CEO Pradeep Achan commented on Amrita’s selection:

“Amrita Technologies has tremendous experience implementing HIS at large-scale hospitals and we are absolutely thrilled that Sir Ganga Ram Hospital has shown confidence in us to partner with them on upgrading their HIS solution. It is indeed gratifying and an honor to be selected from among all the major healthcare automation solutions in the country.”

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, established in 1921, is a 675-bed multi-Speciality state-of-the-art hospital and has been providing high quality healthcare to the population of Delhi and surrounding states since its inception.

CANCER PATIENT RECOVERS COMPLETELY AFTER RARE SURGERY IN SIR GANGA RAM HOSPITAL, NEW DELHI, INDIA - Sunday, July 6th 2014

A team of doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi consisting of Dr. Suresh Singhvi (Senior Consultant Hepatic & Pancreatic Surgery and Liver Transplant) and Dr. Sujay Shad (Senior Cardiac Surgeon) performed a rare surgery on a Nigerian patient, who had cancer of the liver that had spread to the heart. The patient reported to the hospital for a follow-up 15 months after the surgery and has recovered completely.

NEW DELHI, INDIA (PRWEB) JULY 06, 2014

Dr. Lubabatuyakuba Musa, a 32-year-old physician from Nigeria, has survived from cancer, thanks to the competent surgeons in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. The Nigerian doctor was operated by a team of surgeons in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for cancer of the liver and a tumor in the heart. On July 5, 2014, Dr. Musa came to the hospital in Delhi for a follow-up, one year and three months after her surgery, and underwent all important investigations.

Congratulating the Nigerian doctor for fighting cancer bravely, Dr Suresh Singhvi, Senior Consultant Hepatic Pancreatic & Biliary (HPB) Surgery and Liver Transplant in Sir Ganga Ram hospital stated, “All of Dr. Musa’s diagnostic tests are normal and she is absolutely healthy.”

Dr. Suresh Singhvi further added, “Dr. Lubabatuyakuba Musa went to a Cardiologist in Nigeria last year with a history of palpitations and a weight loss of 15 Kg. The doctor attending on her performed an Echocardiogram that revealed a tumor in the right atrium (right upper chamber of the heart). Dr. Musa then flew to India and underwent treatment at a private hospital in Delhi where doctors performed open heart surgery and removed the tumor in her heart.”

“After returning to Nigeria, Dr. Lubabatuyakuba observed that she was continuing to Lose Weight. She went in for an Ultrasound scan of the abdomen, which showed a large tumor involving the whole of the left lobe of the liver. One of the leading hospitals in U.K informed her that the tumor could not be operated, while another hospital in UK quoted the cost of treatment as GBP 150,000,’’ disclosed Dr. Suresh Singhvi.

Dr. Musa then contacted Dr. Suresh Singhvi in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital New Delhi, who suggested to her that she needed a team of liver and heart surgeons to treat her in a proper manner. Following Dr. Singhvi’s advice, the patient got admitted in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital where she was operated by a team of surgeons consisting of Dr. Suresh Singhvi (M.S, FRCS, CCST (UK) and Dr. Sujay Shad & Dr. Dubey (Senior Cardiac Surgeons) along with a team of anesthetists Dr Maheshwari, Dr. Anil Jain and Dr. Jayashri Sood.

The patient had a total blood loss of 4 units and was discharged after a stay of thirteen days in the hospital. After the surgery, Dr. Lubabatuyakuba stayed in New Delhi for 6 weeks for complete recovery and then returned to Nigeria, where she underwent chemotherapy for 6 months followed by another cycle of chemotherapy.

Now, the patient is doing well, has gained weight and is very happy that she came to India for treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. The whole treatment cost Dr. Lubabatuyakuba Musa Rupees eight lacs, which is one twentieth of the cost that was quoted to her in U.K. Dr. Suresh Singhvi said, “Due to advancements in Surgical & Medical techniques, cancer can be treated if a patient reports in time for proper treatment.” Dr. Musa’s e-mail ID – lubabatuyakubu (at) yahoo (dot) com

SIR GANGA RAM HOSPITAL IN INDIA REDUCES BILLING TIME BY 40% AND IMPROVES PATIENT SERVICEWITH INTERSYSTEMS TRAKCARE

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, a 650-bed multi-specialty state-of-the-art hospital in New Delhi, India needed to replace its 20-year-old healthcare information system (HIS).

But first it had to overcome a number of factors which might hinder implementation. These included the hospital’s 35 specialties, many with different workflows which have “hardened” over the hospital’s 50 year history, making them difficult to change.

·         Increased outpatient throughput

·         Better inventory control

·         Rapid access to lab results

·         Reduced allergy and drug interactions

·

“Basic rules for each department are framed by the departmental head,” said Dr. Karanvir Singh, the surgeon responsible for the HIS implementation. “Although this helps each department provide the best possible care, it leads to a complex implementation environment.”

Sir Ganga Ram chose Intersystem TrakCare® as its new HIS because of Intersystem’ track record of successful implementations at hundreds of sites around the world and the product’s technology advantages. These advantages include:

·         A Web-based user interface for ease of learning, use, and configuration

·         A single, unified information environment for all its modules enabling simplified information sharing, faster implementation, easier maintenance, and lower costs

·         A highly reliable technology foundation built on the Intersystem Cache® high performance database

“We now realize that our high transaction rate – with a peak rate of 2,500 per hour – is only possible because we are using Cache,” noted Dr. Singh.

GANGA RAM HOSPITAL TO PROVIDE FREE TREATMENT TO ACID VICTIM

New Delhi: A city-based private hospital will provide free treatment to a young woman who has suffered severe burn injuries in an acid attack in Uttar Pradesh.

The victim, Isha Khan, was shifted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on April 2 nights after she suffered severe injuries in her eyes in an acid attack in Muzaffarnagar on the same day.

Isha and her three sisters, all teachers, suffered injuries when they were attacked by two men on a motorcycle while they were returning after UP board exam duty.

In a statement released today, the hospital said, it will "waive off her full treatment cost incurred during her stay at the hospital" considering that the victim`s family is poor.

The hospital would keep her in observation for a week or so before taking a decision on her discharge, it said.

"Our first priority is to restore her vision and try to bring her back to the main frame of the society," Dr DS Rana of the hospital said.

Explaining the current condition of the victim, Dr A K Grover, Chairman of Department of Ophthalmology, said, "When the girl was brought to us she had a severe injury in her eyes...We hope to restore her left eye`s vision in due course of time. Right eye is essentially normal."

Dr Mahesh Mangal, Chairman, Department of Plastic Surgery said that the patient was responding well to the treatment and doctors were accessing the depth of the wounds on the face, neck and chest.

DELHI HOSPITAL SENDS RELIEF TO JAMMU AND KASHMIR

New Delhi: Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi has sent emergency relief supplies to flood-ravaged regions of Jammu and Kashmir to help it overcome the acute shortage of medicines and blankets.

"The director general of health services, Srinagar apprised the hospital management (Sir Ganga Ram) that most of the hospitals in the Valley have become non-functional except Ahmed hospital," Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said in a statement.

"He (director) also told that there is acute shortage of medicines, blankets and eatables in the Valley for patients," it said.

According to the requirement mentioned, the hospital has dispatched the first lot of blankets, bed sheets, injections, I.V. fluids, disposable syringes, inhalers, tablets, adhesive plaster and other items.

Besides this, the consultants and employees of the hospital have decided to contribute one day's salary for the relief efforts. If required, the hospital will also provide further relief and manpower, it said.

NEGLIGENCE CASE: FIR AGAINST FIVE GANGA RAM DOCTORS - Aug 20, 2014

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has, on the directions of a local court, filed an FIR against five doctors of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for allegedly causing death due to negligence. The complainant, a Military Engineering Service officer posted with the Indian Air Force, has alleged that his wife died after a robotic surgery for retroperitoneal fibrosis, a rare disorder that blocks the tubes (ureters) which carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder.

In the FIR, the victim's husband alleged that a critical artery supplying blood to the kidneys was accidentally cut during the surgery, leading to excessive bleeding.

The FIR was lodged at Rajender Nagar police station under Section 304(A) against Dr Sudhir Khanna, the urology surgeon who conducted the operation, Dr Sanjay Mittal and Dr Manju Gupta, his colleagues from the same department, Dr V S Bedi, vascular surgeon, and Dr Anurag Gupta from nephrology. This was done on the directions of a metropolitan magistrate at Tis Hazari.

The patient, Urmila Devi, had been admitted for robotic ureterolysis surgery on September 4 last year after a smaller surgery done earlier to help her get temporary relief.

According to the FIR filed by Devi's husband, Perm Kishore, the doctors' team, headed by Khanna, "?negligently cut the external iliac artery, which resulted in immediate heavy blood loss, but instead of repairing the iliac artery at the earliest and taking immediate remedial measures, the doctors continued the robotic surgery for another three hours approximately."

Kishore has, in the FIR, alleged that his consent was sought for open surgery in the middle of the operation because the doctor said he was not able to perform a robotic surgery. "(Kishore) signed the consent for open surgery because he trusted Dr Khanna and his team and also because the deceased was on table in the operation theatre," the FIR says. Quoting the hospital's internal reports, the complainant also claims the patient lost three liters of blood which resulted in acute kidney failure'. On September 6, two days after the surgery, Devi died due to cardiac arrest.

Dr Suchita Katoch, medical superintendent of the hospital, said in a written statement: "All treating doctors have done their best while rendering medical services to this patient having a complicated disease. She suffered a known complication of such surgery. It is reiterated that there is no medical negligence on part of the treating doctors in this unfortunate episode. However, the patient's husband has not accepted this unexpected demise and he has approached the investigating agencies. These agencies are investigating the matter and the hospital is fully committed to provide cooperation to them."

In the FIR, Kishore has alleged that against an original estimate of Rs 0.150 Millions for the surgery, the hospital produced a bill of Rs 0.416 Millions and later reduced it to Rs 0.367 Millions when the family objected.

"I had approached the police to get an FIR registered, but they refused. We were forced to go to court," Kishore said. He alleged that doctors often tell about the advantages of robotic surgery but hide the fact that there are few surgeons who have expertise in the field.
