CANADA - ECONOMIC OVERVIEW
Canada resembles the US in its market-oriented economic system, pattern of production, and high living standards. Since World War II, the impressive growth of the manufacturing, mining, and service sectors has transformed the nation from a largely rural economy into one primarily industrial and urban. Canada has a large oil and natural gas sector with the majority of crude oil production derived from oil sands in the western provinces, especially Alberta. Canada now ranks third in the world in proved oil reserves behind Venezuela and Saudi Arabia and is the world’s sixth-largest oil producer.
The 1989 Canada-US Free Trade Agreement and the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement (which includes Mexico) dramatically increased trade and economic integration between the US and Canada. Canada and the US enjoy the world’s most comprehensive and highly balanced bilateral trade and investment relationship, with merchandise trade of $544 billion in 2016, services trade of over $80 billion, and two-way investment stocks of nearly $700 billion. Over three-fourths of Canada’s exports are destined for the US each year. Canada is the largest foreign supplier of energy to the US, including oil, natural gas, and electric power, and a top source of US uranium imports.
Given its abundant natural resources, highly skilled labor force, and modern capital stock, Canada enjoyed solid economic growth from 1993 through 2007. The global economic crisis of 2007-08 moved the Canadian economy into sharp recession by late 2008, and Ottawa posted its first fiscal deficit in 2009 after 12 years of surplus. Canada's major banks emerged from the financial crisis of 2008-09 among the strongest in the world, owing to the financial sector's tradition of conservative lending practices and strong capitalization. Since the fall in world oil prices in 2014, Canada has achieved modest economic growth.

MULTI-PATH FLY-BY-WIRE FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM Publication number: 20130197722 Abstract: A multi-axis serially redundant, single
channel, multi-path fly-by-wire control system comprising: serially redundant
flight control computers in a single channel where only one “primary” flight
control computer is active and controlling at any given time; a matrix of parallel
flight control surface controllers including stabilizer motor control units
(SMCU) and actuator electronics control modules (AECM) define multiple
control paths within the single channel, each implemented with dissimilar
hardware and which each control the movement of a distributed set of flight
control surfaces on the aircraft in response to flight control surface
commands of the primary flight control computer; and a set of (pilot and
co-pilot) controls and aircraft surface/reference/navigation sensors and
systems which provide input to a primary flight control computer and are used
to generate the flight control surface commands to control the aircraft in
flight in accordance with the control law algorithms implemented in the
flight Type: Application Filed: January 16, 2013 Publication date: August 1, 2013 Applicant: Bombardier Inc. Inventor: Bombardier Inc. THREE-WHEEL VEHICLE Publication number: 20130186701 Abstract: An three-wheel vehicle including a modular

engages the left wheels. A left brake is connected to the left track frame
and selectively engages one of a first left wheel and the left track to brake
the left track. At least two right wheels are operatively connected to a
right track frame disposed forwardly of the seat. A right track is disposed
around the right wheels. A right brake is connected to the right track frame
and selectively engages one of a first right wheel and the right track to
brake the right track. A brake lever causes the left and right brakes to
brake the left and right tracks respectively. Type: Application Filed: September 17, 2012 Publication date: January 17, 2013 Applicant: BOMBARDIER RECREATIONAL PRODUCTS INC. Inventor: BOMBARDIER RECREATIONAL PRODUCTS INC VEHICLE HAVING A VARIABLE ASSIST POWER STEERING

frame, four wheels, a pair of seats mounted laterally beside each other, a
cage, a steering assembly, an engine, a front differential, a rear
differential, an actuator selectively operatively connecting the engine to
the front differential, and a vehicle drive mode switch for selecting between
a first and second drive mode. When the first drive mode is selected, the
actuator operatively connects the engine to the front differential, and when
the second drive mode is selected, the actuator operatively disconnects the
engine from the front differential. An electric motor is operatively
connected to the steering assembly. A steering control unit is electrically
connected to the electric motor, determines an output torque to be applied by
the electric motor based at least in part on a speed of the vehicle, and
